I have the exact same set. I found you can fit 33 half pans in there if you take the insert out (three rows of 7 (short width) and two rows of 6 (long width)). I cut up an adhesive magnetic strip to fit the bottoms of the pans so they would stay in. My tin wobbles too, but the paints are so beautiful that I don't care :)

Indigo is my favorite Schmincke watercolor, I have tried other brands but I always go back to Schmincke's indigo! :)

I glued my color chart to the back side of the mixing tray because I do like to use the smaller wells for mixing colors. Some of my favorite schmincke colors are raw Siena, perylene violet and delft blue (as they make a gorgeous muted primary triad), and I love the Olive green (which PG8 and PB15) and transparent yellow.

Schmincke is my favorite brand now! I'm still dabbling in watercolors and primarily charcoal but I just bought traveling supplies for upcoming trips and my honeymoon and can't wait to crack in to them! This was a wonderfully thorough video! Thank you!

I love your swatches! They're always so soothing to watch and you're always so thorough with your pigment discussion. It's a joy to watch! Aaaah, I love schmincke, it's one of my mainstay 3 brands in my palette, and it's hard for me to pick just one! Something between their delft blue, spinel brown, or chromium oxide green. All three are so rich and pigmented, and that delft is one of the deeper and redder indanthrene blues I've tried!

These are really interesting colour choices and there are many colours here that I have never used. My current travel palette, all of which are Schmincke paints are as follows: Pure Yellow (PR154), Cadmium Yellow (PY35), Yellow Orange (PY153 - new version is PY110), Ruby Red (PV19), Quinacridone Red (PR209), Cobalt Blue Light (PB28), French Ultramarine (PB29), Prussian Blue (PB27), Phthalo Green (PG7) Brown Madder (PR206), Transparent Ochre (PY42), Burnt Umber (PBr7), Green Umber (PBr7) and Paynes Grey (mix of three colours that I can't remember off the top of my head). I coud definitely paint without Green Umber, Paynes Grey, one of the blues - probably Prussian - and cadmium yellow. If I was building a palette now, I would probably omit these colours and add Ruby Red Deep (PR264).

My pleasure. :) PY153 is like PO49 in having been discontinued. Winsor and Newton used to use it in their Indian Yellow. I guess Schmincke still has some of the pigment left. It is a pity that it is gone because it was a nice colour, though PY110 is a good replacement also.

I absolutely love this tin. It balances in my weak arthritic hand. The small mixing areas do not drip all over the place. I own 2 that both have no issues of closing. I am waiting for Jackson's to get them back in stock. I wanted another for Daniel Smith's and wound out ordering an overpriced student grade from etsy and gave the paints to a beginner. I have put together specific colors from da Vinci on a cardboard that fits so that I can take different brands. Schmincke when I don't want to layer, sennelier when I want to glaze or florals, m.graham when I am going to be more stationary and want bold color...got my first 18 half pan from Wetpaint in Midwest after seeing it on Marty Owens youtube channel. Thank you for this informative but long tour thru schmincke paints.

It's fun to see what you added to your palette! I got this custom set as well and I actually LOVE the palette shape/size. I've got mine set up with 21 colors as well and similar to you, ordered a triad I was familiar with to make sure I could get mixes. I know Daniel Smith colors best still, but love how easily and smoothly Schmincke colors are for rewetting! My favorites - pure yellow and translucent orange - and perylene red is growing on me :-). I kind of have a least favorite too - I've purchased a few Schmincke sets and cringe every time I add another black to the little pile of unused colors (I'm so glad Jenn McLean chose Payne's Gray instead of a black for this year's Wet Paint custom set!!).

I bought this specialty set a while ago and was disappointed with the range of mixes. I barely use the yellows and the black. But, overall I do think it was worth the cost since it was on sale.

I recently got the 18 half pans pearl finish something limited edition set. It was my first Schminke and I loved it already! It was seriously love at first sight xD So I immediately went to my local art supply store and bought a few half pans and full pans. Took that metal thing out and used double sided tape to stick them in the tin. I still need to fill in one row, but loving what I already have! Also this size is just too cute!

Uuhhh I love all the Schmincke Colors so its hard to decide which ones I love the most 😂 I recently bought Perylene Violet and the color is just gorgeous! I also love the Chinacridone colors. PG50 is very beautiful too but I haven‘t tried any other Turquoise Blue than Schmincke yet

Those swatches look so yummy! I loved watching you making them. My favourite new colors from Schmincke are the Perylenes. I also liked their new yellows, but was disappointed with the transparent earth colors, especially their transparent ochre and burnt sienna. Too much gum arabic to my taste. Have you tried their metallics? they had a special edition in the same tin that I missed. But they are apparently going to bring out the set again in August.

OooooohhhHHHH oh I was so hoping you'd do a more in depth video! I feel immediately compelled to go and pick up titanate gold ochre right now, it looks sooo beautiful. What I was wondering: Did you already do a mixing chart? Because from the dryed versions it seems like the titanite gold ochre and the yellow orange would have similar mixing qualities, so I'd like to see those two compared in action! (Ii'm not a huge fan of pure yellows so the fact that is the one I'm most excited about in this set is amazing to me - having a yellow that I would love to use has been my goal for a while now ;A; ) I love the texture in the potter's pink and the transparent sienna and I think my fav vertical row is the outer left - it's such a beautiful collection of dark muted shades with just a hint of lovely gem colours. I'm super excited for more upcoming demos with this palette, thank you so much for sharing the setup!

Oh it does rather look like those two would be the same, doesn't it? They're quite different though. I haven't done a mixing chart yet but yellow orange is more orange and much more transparent, mixing like a new gamboge or hansa yellow deep. The titanite gold ochre is very muted and opaque, somewhat similar in it's mixing range to an opaque yellow ochre. Glad you liked the video!

What a wonderful palette you have! My favourite Schmincke colors are the Deep Blue (PB60), Geranium Red (PR242), Ruby Red (PV19), Maroon Brown (NBr) and the Transparent Umber (PR101) :) I'm not happy with the Schmincke greens so far, but I'll have to try out more of their colors.

I don't know, they just don't fit my likings and are very bright. Especially the Sap Green is simply wrong, the Hookers Green has too much blue. Indeed I like the Green Earth, but I know, it's not for everyone. Instead of Schmincke Greens I have DS Greens in my palette.

The titanate gold ochre color is gorgeous . I have the same schmincke tin from the Marilyn A. Garber edition. It to has a problem with the lid wiggling and potentially opening. (I love it too much so I just stuck washi tape on the outside to keep it secure )

BTW Wet Paint is currently taking pre- orders for a new limited edition Schmincke palette that will be in the 24 colorful palette box that you had in the beginning of your Vlog. It looks like a nice set as most of the colors are transparent have good+ lightfast ratings. I was kind of surprised that Marty Owings hasn't promoted this set on his channel at least up until this writing. I heard you will be a guest on M Owing's and S. Mitchell's live program soon. Is there already a planned date for this event? I am looking forward to this upcoming event!

Where do you find that thin masking tape?! Or did you cut it yourself? I've been trying to find 1cm wide masking tape for a while now. I hate having to cut individual pieces in half (I'm glad I have a paper trimmer/cutter for doing it)

Is this tin size only available for limited edition sets? I only see one on Amazon for a $135 metallic Schmincke set. I mean, I can fit the same amount of pans in a normal 12 tin, but I like the extra mixing space... Would half pans in a sideways orientation fit in the bottom row?

ArathBeast Doodles I've only seen these tins with the special sets - but that same set is only $80 on Jackson's so check that out first! These have three equally sized rows for vertically placed half pan. The gaps are not big enough for extra s.
