I recently bought shoes from the US, and asked my friend whose currently in the US to ship them this side. Will I be charged customs and duty fees ? I asked him to remove price tags and the shoe boxes

I literally didn't even know I have to pay stuff like customs, I bought short and a t-shirt from Gymshark and had to pay like R900 just for customs which is sad, and makes sense why nobody from SA buys Gymshark.

I literally feel your pain. I ordered skincare products from Deciem worth 250USD (the amount that exempts paying for shipping) and I got slapped with a 1.5k customs charge 🥴 the products are great but I’m severely traumatised 💀

Hey there. I ordered R6000 clothes from ASOS. This was a rare splurge since winter is coming up. I was then charged R3700 for Customs. It's wild. I haven't paid it yet, is there any way to get this minimised?

@Jared January I spent R3700 on my Asos order about a month ago and I ended up paying R2800 for customs. One of the jackets I bought and a pair of boots ended up being way too big and when I asked dhl how much it would cost to return it they said it would be R4000 🙃. I have no idea why customs are so expensive when you buy from the UK.

You are incorrect, VAT is charged in Pretty little thing, fashion nova, etc. To further the statement, customs doesnt charge you if your items are below R500, so if the VAT situation were a thing, they would charge VAT on items that don't go through customs. VAT is TAX that goes to the relevant country, makes no sense to buy a USA item and SA get the tax on it.

@@TianaFitacc You are PHYSICALLY buying an item in USA, TAX is already imposed on items. It is ILLEGAL to sell items online without imposing tax, if you go back, add all your items and checkout you will clearly see tax is calculated. SARS gets custom imposed tax, they are 2 different things.

@@TianaFitacc Yeah, they charge VAT upon the services in customs, unfortunately....we pay tax on our item then tax on the customs services rendered. But, my statement was regarding your statement of vat wasn't charged on the online shopping, but it is, then you're smacked with tax again upon customs clearance.
