I’m new to crocheting tapestries and changing color mid row, I’ve watched other videos with instruction on carrying the yarn and, if it might seem more time consuming to cut and tie on, it’s the best method for me to get through my new project. I think this is so much less frustrating and faster than carrying. So grateful I found u and this video!! Thank u so much!!! 🙏 💗

I find this cut and tie method quicker than carrying the contrast color through. I like that you dont see the contrast color and have clean color changes! Thank you!

I definitely have to try this method! I’ve tried all of the other ones (fair isle, tapestry, intarsia) and get frustrated with all of the strands that I have to carry along. This seems like a great fix for that!

So happy I watched this! I'm working on one of your patterns right now--my first crochet project--as a mother's day present. I was trying to carry the contrasting color through and frogged/redid the first few color changes maybe 5 times because I was frustrated by the color peeking through and I assumed I'd done something wrong. I like the look of this WAY better. Love your work! I've already picked out a few of your other designs (including the one you're demonstrating) that I want to make for myself one I finish the gift for my mom.

wow glad i found your video before i continue working on my cardigan that has a tapestry pattern. i feel bad carrying all the other yarn in the back when i need to change colors, and im working with black and white so occasionally the white yarn pops! this solves it! thank you so much!!!

Exactly! It also takes out the frustration of juggling the yarn throughout the project. Definitely my favorite color changing preference for sure:)

Super helpful! I was trying to do this pattern in black and white by carrying the yarn through and it just wasn’t looking nice, especially because they’re such contrasting colors you could definitely see through to the other color. This does seem more time consuming, but like you said a beautiful crisp project in the end! ❤️ 🧶

That's how I used to change colours when I first started crocheting...thought that was the only way till experts told me different. Weaving ends in puts me off colour changing so I am going back to cut and tie. Thanks for the reminder. Life is far too short to weave in lots of ends and who cares, it's at the back and can't bee seen anyhow. lol

If not weaving in the ends, you could always make up a "back" then stitch the 2 together to effectively hide the fuzzy bits...
@loveandstitch Жыл бұрын
Definitely! I rarely sell a finished piece so I leave it be but if you plan to sell and are concerned about the ties in the back this is a great idea to hide them.
@julielee2562 Жыл бұрын
@@loveandstitch I also figured out a smoother way to get the clipped ends from the right side to the wrong side of the work without tying off in a knot first... simply hold the two strands together & bring them over the work towards yourself, place the next 2 sc to secure, then tie off the clipped ends on the wrong side of the work... that way, you don't have to worry about which stitch to reach through with your hook to pull the knotted ends through to the wrong side... that make sense? I think it actually makes my work look a little smoother on the right side...
@julielee2562 Жыл бұрын
@loveandstitch & instead of making a solid color back piece, I'm making it double-sided... I'm using a dark blue instead of aran, & a white instead of taupe, then the gold as usual... one side has white crescent moons & a gold full moon, the other side will be the opposite... gold crescents & a white full moon! & by stitching them together, back to back, it'll effectively hide all those little snipped bits!

This is terrific! I have been crocheting for over 50 years and I am so excited to learn this color changing method. Thank you! I just purchased your pattern for The Teeny Weanie Sunflower Wall Hanging. I will give this color changing method a try. One question, are you tying the strands into a square knot?
@loveandstitch2 жыл бұрын
That is so awesome Terry! I just double knot them in the back and trim them off:)

When you pull through to the wrong side, do you pull through both loops or just the one closer to the right side? On the video it looks like you only do it through the right side of the loop but no matter which one I do, my next row looks wonky over it. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right...
@daxafer6 ай бұрын
I had the same question! It looks like she pulled through the middle of the v on one end (back loop) then under both parts of the v on the other end.

Curiosity, why do you not cut cut and add your next color then go back and tie and clip, seems like it would be quicker and less likely to get your yarn on the wrong side? Thank you for the video as I was wondering what cut and tie method was on one of your patterns. I usually weave everything in but for a tapestry where the back will not be seen or used this would be much easier.
@loveandstitch3 жыл бұрын
I actually never thought of that! Pulling the ties through to the wrong side was how I learned but this way sounds super interesting and I definitely want to try.
@TinaWells1433 жыл бұрын
@@loveandstitch I think it would save you a lot of time too, you could work a few rows or even the whole piece before taking the time to tie it. Just clip as you go and add your next yarn in like a regular color change.
@patti4success2 жыл бұрын
How do you get such nice straight edges? Thank you for the pattern. 😊
@loveandstitch2 жыл бұрын
Hey Patti! For single crochet i place the very first stitch in the same stitch as the turning chain to create a straight edge.

If you aren't to worried about what the back looks like then totally! If you ant a cleaner back I would suggest using the tapestry or intarsia method.
