Too good to not share! I absolutely hate to weave in ends so I color change using the magic knot. Such a time saver and no pesky yarn ends will come peeking out after a few washes. Check out my Amazon affiliates links for some crochet must haves!

I have seen many many videos show how to do the magic knot. Almost none show how to actually use it to use it to change colors at the end/start of another color stripe. Thank you so much!!! Excellent explanation and demonstration! ❤ New sub!

Moving the magic knot to a better position is just brilliant!! I’ve been doing the magic knot and just fudging where the knot is made and, yes, trying to pull the knot through the stitch. And the secret is not to pull both yarns, but just the working yarn. Thank you!!

Thank you for this wonderful tip! I have found when using knots that are trimmed close, using a drop or two of Fray Check on it will help take any worries of it eventually coming undone, It dries a bit stiff, but will soften and become unnoticeable after a couple of washings. It is made by Dritz and is found in the sewing notions area. It is just an idea to give that extra feeling of security for yourself.

I knew how to make a magic knot, but never heard of or thought of using this instead of weaving in ends. I just started a project similar to a temperature blanket with colour changes for every row and this came across my feed. What perfect timing! Now I'll only have the ends to weave in for the 7 rows I've completed so far the rest will be done like this! Thanks so much for this tutorial!

This is the method I use. It’s easy to hide the knot…and it’s much more secure. Growing up with my moms, afghans, coming apart in areas…I have always worried about that happening to mine. So I learned this knot technique, when I first taught myself to crochet. You did a great job, teaching others to do it 🩷

If I find Im slightly out with where the knot ends up I adjust my tension. Pull out 4 or 5 sts & then slightly change ur tension to move the knot to where you need it to finish up. Too far thru the last stitch then slightly loosen ur tension in the last few sts, if the knot ends up thru the last stitch a tad too early then slightly tighten ur tension. Its a very tiny adjustment in the last 4-5ish sts that can change where ur knot ends 🙂

I have always heard about this join but could never figure it out for colour changing as I could never work out how to get it placed where I wanted the knot to be. So I only used it when I needed to change same coloured yarns when making a large project such as a blanket. Your explanation and video showing how to work out where to place it was freakin’ brilliant! I have been crocheting for near enough 50 years and I hate sewing in all the ends with a pretty colour changing blanket so I tend to make envelope borders to hide them away, so this is going to be a game changer for me! Thank you so much for this! I have subscribed on this video alone…I cannot wait to watch the other videos. Also, I would like to thank you for allowing the closed caption. I am disabled with a spinal injury and bedbound. I don’t get to sleep much these days and so get on my tablet while hubby is sleeping next to me with the sound off. The channels with subtitles allowed are the ones I watch while the family is sleeping. It sounds silly, but I get excited when I find a new channel I can add to be nighttime list as there do not seem to be a lot of them around. So I appreciate you allowing it. Sending love and appreciation from the Highlands of Scotland. ❤

@@Carolyn-qd8mj so I struggled with this because the knot kept popping out and in an attempt to hide it it unraveled so I kinda ended up with a problem I was able to fix it somewhat just looks a tad bulky in that area. I had to add more yarn over it so ensure it wouldn't come undone. So just be careful! And just don't mess with it like I did 😅.

i prefer the russian join. i do a similar thibg to ensure i get the join in tge right place for coloue changes. i fray each end abd remove a strand or 2 before doing the join si it isnt as thick in the part of the join. it is more secure than the method above, , invisible, knot free and no ends to weave in at the end.

I’ve been working on this method! I’ve just always done the knot. Thanks for the suggestion!

13:46 Oh my gosh!!! This is the trick, you let the loop off and that's how you know where the knot needs to be!!! I'm glad you showed this three times, as the first explanation was not very clear. Thank you. Wait. But why do you pull it up at 14:00? 🤔 14:23 "inchmark"???? I'm confused 🧐

Yes this is another option but those ends do tend to fray. But definitely an alternative option to the knot.

I do hope this method actually works 'long term' (normal use and washing). I love Caron Simply Soft due to the vast array of beautiful colors. However, I quit using it after I had to repair large projects over and over again due to 'unraveling' of the joins and using Magic Loop starts that would just "let go". SS is slicker than snot on a hot day, and I have found it just will not stay joined due to the long fibers having no "tooth". I will do a test piece and run it through the gauntlet before I ever do a project again with that yarn. It is disheartening when so much time, love and design go into a project for those you love and they return the item and it looks like it barely survived a war due to normal wear/use. I will try this, and hope. TY.

Oh goodness! I’ve never had an issue with the knot or the Caron yarn. Guess I’ve just been lucky. I’ve had a few suggest a spot of fabric glue on the knot so maybe that would be a good option for you. Good luck! And thanks for watching. 🤗
