Typically I am changing blades about once a week and rotating in a fresh mower to our mowing crew, but I went longer than usual and started getting some complaints from my lawn care clients about the cut quality. They were dead right... These blades were horrible. This was a Sunday evening maintenance day getting ready for a busy week of mowing lawns. Hope you enjoy.

MY STORY:
In 2016 I had been in law enforcement for 7 years.
I was not in control of my schedule, I was hardly making any money, and I was away from my family working nights and holidays. I was capable of more, and I was silently suffering. I knew I was selling myself and my family short.
I started Florida Turf Pros as a side hustle in 2016 before going full time in 2017.
My lawn business changed my life.
I control my own schedule, control my own income, and I am proud of what I have built; a business that supports me, my family, and some employees.
If you are a lawn care business owner, this channel will be a valuable resource for you.
This really is a great industry to be in, and I hope that by documenting my journey it will help you.

A right angle impact is worth having so you can just use the trailer ramps and have plenty of room. I believe in sharpening blades daily if you mow every day. We’re cutting more yards in a single day than most homeowners mow their own yard all year. Realistically I do it once a week and sharpen the blades until theirs nothing left to sharpen. New blades get put on every month at that rate. I’m mowing solo 7 days a week for 10 hours a day. In the past I’ve gotten lazy and would cut for a month or two on the same blades and frayed everyone’s grass. Seeing that stresses me out. Tire pressure is equally as important for cut quality.

I'm just a homeowner who loves to mow grass and be outside! It's my relaxation!...I probably sharpen my blades too often, and I have 6 blades that I rotate during the season. Ever since I learned by watching guys like yourself on YT how to sharpen my own blades, I keep'm sharp. It makes a difference when you look at the grass blades and there's a nice clean cut! Thank you for the knowledge you've been dropping lately. It's been helpful and motivating. I want to get into the mowing business, but I haven't taken that leap. Keep procrastinating and think of the 'what if's'...what if this goes wrong, what if that goes wrong. What if I don't get customer' all those things. Stay safe and see you on the next one👊🏽

Block of wood sandwich between top of deck and mower frame. Low profile jack and 2 jack stands 1 on each corner. Cordless impact and some permatex antiseaze as needed keep the threads for the bolts locking up. Keep a couple sets of blades presharpend. 5 minutes tops.

Shallow sockets. Floor jacks work wonders, but I use a trail jack for my rider because it's more portable compared to an fj, and I can do blades or whatever anywhere out in the field. Anywhere that can support the narrow base of the jack, anyway. My trail jack has also come in handy for getting an overloaded trailer off of my truck. I'm trying to get blades up to twice a week, but really, I'm so busy and tired, it's been anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks 😅

We have bout 6 different sets of blades for each mower, swap with fresh blades every day. Sharpen them all in one swing once or twice a week. Sharpening them takes a while just because it’s in bulk, but takes less than 2 minutes to swap the blades with impact wrench each morning

We been getting so much rain here in the Chicago areas, sharpened blades and cleaning under the deck is daily. Depends on what brand of mower ur running with. We running grandstands and use the ramp as a starting incline, pull brake lever and pull back on mower until vertical, balance very good ,change blades and cleaning under deck easier, but not all mowers .

Now, usually daily. I do, occasionally, bring a spare set to swap onto a mower if I've been using the same mower all day on less than pristine lawns. I change the blades not so much because they're dull at the end of the day but because the deck needs to be cleaned out every day. Coming from Tampa to TN,I can't believe the amount of grass that accumulates under the deck. In Tampa, I RARELY had to clean anything under the deck of the grandstands except for the baffle area. Here, I get five plus pounds of crap out from under the deck each day on each unit PS, back in Tampa I changed the blades after every six hours of actual mowing. Which would be about every other day on each machine. I did full service maintenance there so it wasn't just mowing. I'd knock out 10-12 yards a day but most of those were only ten to fifteen minutes actually on the mower.

@Hillsidelanscapemanagement same here. Moved up to north middle Tennessee from Atlanta this January and I'm doing a thorough cleaning out from under my deck almost every 2 days. Blades definitely get dull a lot quicker here than compared to the bermuda lawns that I was used to.

Been getting so much rain in Pennsylvania this spring you have to clean under deck every yard. Mowing at 3 in the afternoon and still wet and clumping because rain every other day. Change blades weekly but we only mow 50 yards Thursday And Friday. Monday through Wednesday landscaping maintenance.
