Thanks for the review. Looked impressive so I went to their site and ordered 3 for my 54" Hustler zero turn. Ridiculous price at $347.00 shipped but I figured why not. First off there was no place on the order page to put a discount code. Secondly after a full week I still had no ship date, tracking / number so I called and after pushing several buttons I finally spoke to "Leroy". Oh he said....it says on the page these are special order and take 4 - 5 weeks to arrive. I said there was no such thing on their website or I wouldnt have ordered them. I said cancel my order since you already charged my credit card and refund the card. Oh he said....I have no means to do that but I can send you a check. I said ok, when will the check be sent. In a week he said as the "secretary" doesnt work every day. So these clowns have zero idea how to properly run a business and are a real pita to deal with. Now I have to dispute the charge on my card and hope I do in fact eventually get said refund check. Just a heads up for anyone thinking of dealing with these knuckleheads......

I have reservations over how thin the metal is compared to the standard blade you showed. The ability to flex should make up for a lot of that, but only time will tell on the longevity and if it’s cost effective or not. The one thing I know for sure is it’s a guessing game until you try them. Thanks for checking them out for us and I look forward to your long term opinions 🤠

Same style as the disc mower that is used on some farms. Used one a few times, they worked good. They did take a bit more power, but they cut in any direction that the hay was laying. I helped change a few of the blades, problem with that was everything was worn down from sandy soil and rough terrain. I designed a system for my lawnmower to use the same setup, but never did build it.

Quality video reviewing the product. The only thing I didn't understand is saying that bent straight blade would be hard to fix.. A torch and a shop press to flatten and straighten it, grinder and nail in the wall to sharpen and balance it. If that flat plate gets warped by an anthill or log, or the retention clips get worn down by sand - could make for a bad day. All that said, I wouldn't stop anyone from trying the cutlass blades - so long as they had a beefy enough mower to handle them (I wouldn't put them on a less than 16hp mower or on a mower with a box-store thin deck).

I like the windrows! Makes it easy to collect with my tractor and a rake to add nitrogen to my compost pile! Same with small branches and dry leaves! Run them through my chipper and put them in the compost pile; they add carbon to the nitrogen rich grass clippings. Mix in the non-meat kitchen waste, water and turn every week and I get high quality composted soil gor my garden.

I know it was already stated in the video, but I'm gonna say anyway that Australia has used a similar design for years on push mowers. No bent cranks from hitting posts and stumps in the ground and you don't normally bother sharpening your blades - opting for just buying a new set and bolting them on. You can sharpen them if you want though.

The small blades on the corners remind me of the small razor-style blades that you can find on robotic mowers. That being said, I have been doing a lot of excavation digging projects around my property and have a lot of stones that I keep hitting with my existing mower blades (John Deere X728) and I don't want to launch a stone through a window or at my house, so I may look at picking these up.. Howdy Brock! Interesting mower blade. I have the same kind of yard, mixture of grasses and clover. If I let it get too high I have the same issue with not getting an even cut. I have to use what I call the 'overlap method' lol. Each pass is 50% new and the other 50% overlapping the previous cut. Takes longer, but I enjoy being out on the tractor and I'm only mowing 3 acres. Probably wouldn't need to do it like that as often if I would sharpen my blade lol. 😆 Well done and thanks for sharing 🤠

As far as balancing goes I think you'd have to be significantly different in weight to throw those out of balance, they're not precision weight to start with so I don't think you're going to have a problem there. I would bet you could even take one of the blades off and only have three and I bet it would run just fine because that center square piece has got 90% of your centrifugal force right there

Here in the US most lawn mowers use a single straight blade...larger mowers have multiple blades, but they're all fixed length, they don't swivel at all. Flail mowers, reel mowers (not very popular anymore), and brush hogs are the only swinging blade type mowers here in the US. Most people are mowing their lawns with a regular lawn mower which just uses the single straight blades. That straight blade works fine, as long as your yard is clean, or whatever area you are mowing is clean, but if not, you end up with bent or even broken mower blades, damaged mower deck spindles, etc.

Had a fixed blade snap on a mower and it hit a fence I was just weedwacking 10 seconds earlier. And he didn’t hit anything the more started to shake real bad out of know where and we thought a rope hose or cable got in the deck and the more slung something to the fence. But when we looked there wasn’t anything haven’t noticed the broken blade tried to deck again and it shook like crazy. He went to the fence while I reinspected the deck and at the same time we yelled out the blade broke I found the broken blade the same time he for the other half.😂 it put a hole in that fence.

Wow, you really did a number to that blade. That must have been one hell of a rock. I guess that’s the price you pay cutting areas that you aren’t familiar with at new job sites. I’d be interested to see how these hold up long term. I use my lx2610 to cut farm lanes and pastures, but I like the finished look the belly mower on it provides. Only downside is I have to cut more often, but it prevents me from needing to borrow my grandfathers older JD 2040/4020 (cant remember which configuration the numbers are in), along with his brush hog. Interesting mowing technique, I’m more of a parallel line look, going opposite directions to create a poor mans stripe golf course look. Either way, these look interesting, if they hold up better then my Kubota blades and my Dixie Chopper zero turn blades, the Dixie blades wear out so quickly, so any improvement would be great. Thanks again for exposing us to all these interesting products Brock. Great content as always 👍

The upfront cost is high and could be worth it for not throwing rocks. But you said the cost of replacing the tips would be lower, and that is not true. A three spindle deck of the deluxe would be 12 blades. A pack of 12 replacement blades from Cutlass is $90. A set of 3 mulching, flat blades is half that. If I can replace them with something from the farm supply store, then maybe it would be less expensive.

@@patrickcorbett8361 You can see the mower in the video and with enough sense would know it has more than 1 blade. I'm not aware of any decks that size with 1 blade. Even some of the 30" walk behind mowers have 2 blades. The blades shown in this video are ridiculously expensive, you have nearly 1/2 the cost of a new lawn tractor tied up in a set of blades...add to that replacement cutters...that's a heck of a lot of money to spend when you could simply just clean up your property and not run over stuff that would damage the blades LOL. I'm almost through my 3rd season with the Gator G5 blades on my lawn tractor that I have yet to even need to sharpen, let alone damage. When you mow a new area, or for someone else you really gotta be careful, I'd use a rough cut mower at the very least mowing an area that hasn't been mowed before, or a walk behind string trimmer. Going out there with a fancy zero turn mower cutting an uncut area is just asking for trouble...yeah people do it, but its really bad for the equipment. A tractor with a brush hog would be a good start, once you get it knocked down then go through with a regular mower, no need for blades like this to mow a lawn in the first place...there have been several different companies come out with blades like these, you never see them after a while because people realize they're way too expensive and not built as well as one would think. They also don't perform very well in heavy/thick grass.

@wildbill23c regular blades for my mower are around $80 for a set at my local dealership. So these cost an extra $300 on a mower that cost $15,000. @RockhillfarmYT Yes, I can see that, I've contacted the company, and they don't ship to Australia at the moment. I'd really love to give them a go. This may be a bit left field, but is there any chance of me paying you plus extra for your time and work to send me a set out to Australia. All expenses plus more covered? This would be so appreciated all the way from Australia! Happy to chat more if needed. Thanks so much!

I believe, What you see on the website is the same product. They are just shaped differently for different size mowers. My 72 inch deck had a square center.

Wow I like them a lot but I just looked up a set for a 46 in zero and it was $120 per blade. I am not a lawn car specialist so I have a hard time justifying to the wife. LOL

I love the swing-blade concept, but They are a little spendy… 25% more than the cost of a 3 blade set, for a single blade assembly for my 60” so 375% of a new blade set to outfit initially… A full set of 12 replacement blades is nearly the same cost as a 3 blade set, but these would be easier to rebuild/overhaul…

I would have been nice if you cut a swat with the old blades and then changed the blades for a better and side by side comparison.🤯

They should definitely come with 4 or 8 extra blades so that they can all be sharpened at once and replaced at will…

if the blade folds away, what does the "steel" or "STUMP" do to the frame?? seems pretty destroyable to me......

Gimmicky. Whatever you're hitting that bent the Hustler blades is also going to bend the gimmick. You may not have windrows, but gawd at the stripes they leave. I see blade path everywhere you went with it. But if you're happy with them, that's what matters.

400 bucks to start, and then 12 replacement blades for 90 for me. If they could lower their price way more would jump in on it.

You didn't mention what height you normally cut to. I usually let mine get 5" or so and cut back to 3.5". According to the people that really care about this stuff, you're not supposed to cut more than 1/3 the height. I kinda try to keep to that, but like you, my lawn is not monoculture. Also, I do prefer that it looks >somewhat< maintained if you're seeing it from the street. Just looked at the website, I don't see that square style blade plate that you're showing in the video.

Interesting & functional, but just too expensive to swap out in my 21 “ Troy built rear bag mower. Can’t justify an $80.00 expense when I can easily get a new blade for $20.00 .
