Great session as always. I'm so glad I found you way back when you were a guest on the TV show, before you had your show. Throughout the years I have grown to love you and Kris as you all add such value to the woodworking community and the Neighborwood. Thanks for everything throughout the years!

Router with simple two side fence jig. Used the same for cutting tenons for tables….. has been my choice over the years. Thanks for showing another way.

Good session, Tom. I've made tenons on the band saw by setting the fence to the space between the face of the piece and the wanted tenon face, then rotating the workpiece to cut the other cheek, i.e. without the spacer.. Is this technique OK, or was I just lucky? Your piece has to be dead square, of course for this to be accurate.

That's how I taught myself to cut my tenons. Works great and fastest way.

I think there's an easier way to square up the table. Just grab a piece of 2x4 and put the 1 1/2" side on the table. Cut into the 3 1/2" side about 1/8" deep. Then flip the 2x4 over so the side touching the table is now facing up. If the blade lines up in the cut then it's square. My problem area with the band saw is deciding on what is the correct amount of blade tension. That's my difficult area.

Great, whatever gets you to square 👍 I had to be certain it was dead on because I was teaching a class and any slight error would be multiplied by all the parts of all the students. I like using stock I tried up myself to dial it in, but I can see how a 2x4 could work too. For tensioning, with the cover off, I watch the blade and you will see a slight flutter under lower tension. Tighten little by little until the flutter goes away and that is said to be the ideal tension…blades last longer too. However, larger and wider resaw type blades require higher tension and these larger bandsaws usually have a tensioning guide. Thanks for watching! 😎
