Great stuff! I recommended your tool to a friend of mine who creates a lot of instruction video's. It is saving him loads of time. And I'm using the tool myself of course. Keep up the good work! One nice feature would be to have an option to automatically generate simple crossfades (1 second duration) between clips, as a selectable alternative to the hard cuts that are used now. (Of course that would make the program slower, and less straightforward than it is now, because of the rendering, but the result would be great I think!)

Hi! If you're thinking about cutting at an exact time where the audio is silent, unfortunately that's not currently possible because it can only cut at keyframes. However once "smart cut" is implemented, this could be done: github.com/mifi/lossless-cut/issues/126

Not sure how that would work. if you cut only video, but leave audio, then audio and video would get out of sync. But if it's what you want, then you could achieve it export audio and video as separate files, then open the video, cut it and merge. Then open the merged file, and add the audio file as an external track and export to join them back together.

Your program is awesome. But I have a simple questen. When i cut for example 5 min form a Video with the setting, that he should keep the time of the sourcefile. The new File is alsways 1h + 5min correct would be only +5 min. I wonder if it is related to summer and wintertime here in europe. I am from Germany. In Winter it is UTC+1 and in Summer its UTC+2. I appriciate your support.

Hi! wonderful app! its very useful for me as I work with massive video files (15 hours long) from which I have too extract clips and trash out commercials, etc. Is it possible to cut out a segment and collapse empty espace? i.e join preceding and subsequent segments after exporting a smaller segment? in this way I could select needed segment, export it, and then just click delete, "collapse" (somewhat like iMovie) and have it removed from the full length file, save the file and keep working another day. This way I'd be working seamlessly without any confusion/having to memorize or write down timelines etc... hope I made sense?

The day I downloaded LossLessCut it worked beautifully! The very next day after I turned my computer back on it started having problems: the video no longer had any sound in the editing plane unless I made a compatible preview file, but when I did that it wouldn't export segments. I want to be able to use this editor like I could the first time I tried it. Would you be willing to look at a videos of my issue? Or perhaps have a video conference where I show you? I'd love to help fix this issue. All the while, if you know of possible causes I'd like to hear about them and try any fixes you recommend.

@@mifino After further study: The issue with being unable to export segments with the Preview present seems to only happen now with larger vids like entire blu-ray movies. The No sound without a preview problem happens with any file I separate out from a blu-ray, like this snippet here www.mediafire.com/file/54l3zf8rhxzkmf8/112_-_Mini_Arc_Part_%25283%2529.mkv/file To see the full extent of my issue, rip any blu-ray disc with MakeMKV, then try to play the rip within LossLessCut. Then make a Compatible Preview file and try to export any section.

It´s a extremely good program, best of the best. But (a detail) when you drop multiple videos to merge, they are sorted almost randomly, even when my files are sorted by name. So when you drag 5+ files, instead of easily dragging and press enter, you must order them first. I dragged 15 files to merge and it took some time to order those files. Thanks for your time.

Fantastic program - Terrible video. The pounding music is extremely distracting and completely unnecessary. The mouse moves are blazingly fast and difficult to follow. It would be so much more useful to slow down a little and have voice over describing what actions you are performing and why. You as the teacher know what you are doing, but the first time student does not. Hopefully someone has put out a real tutorial. BUT thanks you so much for wonderful software - nice job

Unfortunately, this video is almost entirely useless. I can see the mouse flying around aimlessly, colors changing psychedelically, but I never understand why nor how. It doesn't help that the clicks are never materialized, so you never show whether the mouse pointer shows or clicks. The horrific sound track doesn't give any information, despite much being really needed.

It doesn't really care about the bit depth or codec. It depends on ffmpeg support really. I would just try it out and file an issue if it doesn't work.

I'm here because I'm blind apparently and didn't see export button. Problem I have now is after the cut, music is still marked as being 33 minutes instead of 4. Which makes forwarding annoying since if you click on track 1/2 in, you will go to 16 minutes (non existing) instead of 2 minutes.

Hi! Is there a bug causing the export button not to be shown or is it not so easy to see? If you are seeing problems with cutting, try to disable all tracks except 1 video track and 1 audio track in the tracks panel. Sometimes ffmpeg has trouble cutting certain types of tracks

@@mifino button was just rather small when the program was on full screen so i didnt notice Im trying to cut flac music. Its a 56min bundle. Song is 3m48s. So its only 1 tract in export opt. Metadata retains the 56min duration apparently. Not sure if i have to manually mess with it and how if i have to

Thanks for making out the tutorial but i would like to ask does it alter the video quality even by 0.5% ? I want to trim my marriage video but don't want to lose a single frame or bitrate. Also i have noticed that Fps get changed by 0.1-0.5 fps , Data rate increase to 2x and bit rate also Change by 1 How that possible ?

Hi. LosslessCut doesn't process individual frames, but rather blocks of encoded data. You won't lose frames or bitrate, however certain *metadata* might get changed/lost in some cases. Such as embedded title, and like you say, sometimes FPS gets altered slightly. However the actual video data will be the same. If data rate increases to 2x, then that could be a bug, maybe you can report it at github.

I appreciate that this software retains the full resolution and FPS of edited videos, but there seems to be no way to easily combine multiple separate video clips into one single video. I tried to merge the files several times, but the resulting video exported is a disaster. The video and audio is completely out of sync and the video moves like slow motion. Is there some solution to this? I appreciate the effort put into making this free software, but the inability to combine separate video clips into one single video makes this essentially useless for me.

Hi. It depends on your codecs and formats etc. Unfortunately lossless operations don't always work with all kinds of files, and not much we can do about it.

I have a question about this software. Can it merge two audio tracks into one (re-encoding)? Also can it play back the video fast? Say 2x or five times speed for trying to locate specific parts of a recording? These are features I would like to see added if they don't already exist. No it cannot mix audio. Can play back vidoe fast if the codec/format is supported natively.

Thanks for the reply. I found the fast play in the help section just after I posted. I believe OBS remuxes audio easily enough, so I'll probably go that route to finalize edits. There is one other feature I would really like to see added though. Let us mute tracks in a segment, wiithout muting the whole video. I know we can mute and export, but this step could be avoided entirely and save a good chunk of time if we could do it in the editor.@@mifino

@@Zaicyn you cannot mute tracks/segments but you can completely remove audio tracks from the whole video which effectively has the same effect as muting them for the whole duration of the video. e.g. say you have a video with a video track and one english audio track and one german audio track. you can remove the german track completely and then export, and you're left with a video with an english track only

When i try to cut out 8 sec clip from 40 minutes video, it also includes 8 sec clip in final merged video. That should not happened. What can i do for that ? If i cut 15-20 sec clip, then it is working fine, but not for small sec clips.

It depends on the distance between keyframes. losslesscut cannot cut between keyframes, so if there is no keyframes for 8 seconds, then it will instead cut at the keyframe, and maybe not cut anything. you can see keyframes as black lines on the timeline
