Girl from Honduras talking about her mom being ashamed of working as a housecleaner made me really sad and tear up a bit. There is no shame in being a hard worker and doing what what you need to do to take care of your family. I think its really sweet how she depicted her mom in that piece.

@Holly-kr1vr

I agree!! There are some things that are just rude and disrespectful to ask. But to be honest art is a really personal topic, especially when they are talking about your art, so in reality everything thing they said could've been unintentionally rude to one of the artists. I think this could have been done so much better if they invited art enthusiasts or other professionals to guess, who would really appreciate each piece and could give the audience actual meaningful interpretations or insight about the art, rather than just random meaningless first impressions that were a lot of the time, insulting and insensitive. this had a lot of potential but just inviting the right people would have made the video so much more meaningful.

I totally agree, and I immediately knew it was the woman who said her art is inspired by her family. It's a beautiful representation of her love for her mother, showing her mom as a goddess, who's sacrificed, worked incredibly hard, and given unconditional love to her children so they could have a better life. It's a beautiful piece, and executed perfectly. 100% deserves to be in a museum.

And the people reacting to it also interpreted someone else's passion their own way. You can't expect anyone to appreciate anything, not all art is meant to appeal to everyone. People are gonna have subjective opinions. If art can be expressed any way, anyone can interpret it any way just as fairly. To an extent some definitely dogged on some pieces a bit too much but it really doesn't matter. and yes they better link the artist's media

Exactly. I think having both shame and admiration surround one's working class parent's job is a really specific feeling that is hard to empathize with when you've never felt it. This feeling dictated all of my social life growing up, and seeing someone create such a beautiful piece out of that experience made me feel so warm.

I thought it had really sentimental value until 8:44 when the brown jacket lady asked her if she sold it, how much she'd sell it for. I was expecting the answer to be "it's not for sale". The feeling is still there, it just wasn't that strong afterwards 'cos after adding a price it means the love dedicated into making that piece of art had a price too. Love is priceless.

That's something very superficial and materialistic , artists don't make art to get somewhere they do It because they need to. It's an outlet of oneself primal for humans just like all our other basic needs.
@vihstadler
@vihstadler 5 жыл бұрын
@@Mellow_Mood_Beats artists also need to eat and pay the bills, believe it or not they don't feed of love and inspiration. So when they're not able to live of their art, or when all their hard work is not recognized, that can lead to frustration.
@Mellow_Mood_Beats
@Mellow_Mood_Beats 5 жыл бұрын
@@vihstadler that has absolutely nothing to do with my point! I never said art has to be your only form of sustainment, Instead my message was do It for a genuine and visceral need that starts from within and that will make you feel accomplished and like you've produced something beautiful rather than passively watching tv. Also an artist doesn't need to be someone that lives off his creations only,; your postman, the cashier of your local walmart could be an artist for all you know. Open your mind and start understanding that you can live of your art, look at the chef of your favourite restaurant he's an artist in his own way just like your hairdresser could be! moral of the story never stop doing your art, It will always get you somewhere, watching television instead won't. Peace out
@vihstadler
@vihstadler 5 жыл бұрын
@@Mellow_Mood_Beats your point of view is very idealistic. You say that an artist doesn't need to live off their creation; thing is, we want to. We don't want to have our biggest passion to be a hobby. A lot of people are satisfied with it, but most of us aren't. And when we aren't able to, when we have to put this aside as a hobby and do something we don't enjoy to be able to survive instead, we get discouraged. We get bitter. And eventually, we give up, because making art that won't get recognized as such becomes a source of frustration. So I get your good intentions and I know you're not saying any of this in bad faith. I'm just saying artists are not beings of light who just want to bring beauty to the world or whatever. We also want that, but we're just human beings who want to get a life by doing what we love. And most of the time, we aren't able to.

@@marissa_w7 But then again, you're painting drugs in a negative light, so that is indeed your own opinions and preconceptions in play. Art on different substances, states of mind, emotions, settings (Seasonal and geographical) all look and convey different emotions and aesthetics, so it's a completely valid response and question if not said in ill will. But yeah the kid question and asking them to appraise it is just fucking rude and ignorant.
