That us so wise. I’m having my first child at 23 and I’m worried my mom will find someway to make it toxic between us. I still haven’t fully forgiven her for kicking out my older sister when I was 11,(she was 16). In the middle of a Wisconsin winter no less. And she made her sleep on the concrete and after that I didn’t get to see her until I was 17. Anyway, I’m abstaining from spanking my child bc I can recall all but one beating I got as a kid bc I literally passed out, and I couldn’t imagine how much that would hurt my child’s feelings. It doesn’t even teach the child how to learn it only teaches fear and distrust.

@@kaichase2725 Did you have a good relationship with your parents growing up? If not, do you feel like you can forgive what they did? I ask because, when people had a good relationship with parents and siblings growing up, I find they tend not to understand why people feel like they shouldn't have to care for or about their relatives. I do think it's entirely up to that guy what he would do in that situation like you said, but at the same time I don't think the OC was saying he should do different. I read it more as empathy and just a comment that he doesn't have to feel obligated to anything because of blood. Family is often the worst offender of abuse and manipulation, after all. He can do whatever he wants, as can you and everyone else when it comes to handling that, but I also feel like he shouldn't be back under the same roof as those people for the sake of his mental health.

Being told by the "favorite" child how great your parents are and invalidating your feelings when they abused you is heart wrenching. I hope that one brother is getting support and tries to distance himself from his negative family. Abuse is abuse no matter what others think and he's so freaking worthy of working thru that anger, pain and sadness. Also I cried when he talked about his childhood and how the other brother tried to reason that he was bad, it doesnt matter. Parents need to discipline not ABUSE. And the one pair of brother and sister were so funny and relatable about petty fighting. The other pair of siblings had me crying when she talked about how she looked up to him and how his actions shaped her, I feel like thats how my brothers feel but they would never say it to me.

I relate so much to the two brothers. Whenever my brother and I try to speak up about how we were mistreated by our parents, our other two siblings (who were rebellious but more outspoken and thus ultimately given more love and attention) always try to make us “see the silver lining,” and it’s so annoying because yeah, I get that ideal, but why can’t they just listen for once and try not to fix what we’re saying? They always try to say that our parents can’t love us in the way we want them to and that we all had disagreements with our parents but they love us. Yes, I get all that. We were all punished in similar ways, but the REASONS for those punishments were different. For them, it was because of outright rebellion like staying out too late, drinking too much, or disobeying over significant others. For us, it was just because we didn’t like coming out of our rooms...
