@animalmother556x456 жыл бұрын
Casey Linker It is from all sides as well. As a white dude from rural Iowa, I never expected "racism" to necessarily manifest anywhere around me. Rural Iowa is quiet...we leave each other alone, and don't pay much attention to someone's race...we just live and let live as long as no one is being hurt. So, I never expected it around me...let alone HAPPENING to me. My wife is from Mexico and her parents are very traditional...all of my wife's siblings (there are 8 of them) are in relationships with other Mexicans...and the vast majority are even from the same area in Mexico. When we broke the news to them that we were going to get married (they speak very little English, so my wife did the talking) I could immediately tell they were upset. My wife wouldn't tell me what they said for a few days...but she finally told me that they expressed they did NOT want grandchildren that were half white. That was about 5 years ago...it has been hard, but they finally see that I treat their daughter properly, and have accepted that we are together. We have no children yet...but their comment about "not wanting" mixed grandchildren is still in my mind.

My ex never told me why he didn't like to be around her until we broke up and years later. Someone I dated in college once told me that his parents probably wouldn't like me based on my skin color, and that made me so upset too. It's a lot to deal with.

I’m so happy that his mother was so sweet. I can’t lie, I was scared seeing that she was white and the girlfriend was black because of my own fear of not being liked by a white mother in law. I cried watching this, it was so sweet and wholesome.
@natashap41626 жыл бұрын
I cried to. My ex fiance was Arab and muslim and I am a white, religiously non comforming woman. It didnt matter that I truely believed in a lot of what Islam teaches, or that I didn't eat pork etc. I was a white Canadian and it was therfore not acceptable to date me. Never mind we were truely in love. It tore us apart. This was something I had to go through one time, yes it was traumatic in ways I can't even explain. However, this is the daily reality of yourself and people of other races on a regular basis. So I can only begin to imagine what kind of pain it must be to worry before meeting new people, will they judge you based on the colour of your skin. It's heart breaking and it makes me angry because I had a glimpse of what that feels like, and it broke me in ways a lot of (white) people just can't begin to understand. That moment between the mom and this women made me cry happy tears. Her having the strength to share that hurt and the mother whole heartedly showing that she is truely accepted 😭😍

@@jomangeee women are almost always way more protective of their son then of a daughter. To a mother when her son starts dating or gets married in her eyes that girl is going to replace her her daughter getting a boyfriend is not replacing her as a mother that's why more men are protective of their daughters than of their son because they feel like they are being replaced when their daughter starts dating a man.. and of course that's not what a relationship is supposed to be you're not supposed to become your significant other is parent put in a parent's eyes it's kind of like that where you're going to take over taking care of them emotionally.

I didn't know that this was a thing in America. I'm aware that this "race" stuff matters a lot more in America (in germany we wouldn't even use that word for quite obvious reasons) but it's always surprising to me how much you separate the people based on their "race". I mean, were all immigrants at some point. The ancestors of most so called Americans came from England. Same with Australia. So to me, it doesn't make any sense to divide people based on their looks and "where they come from".
