Cute baby swans trying to catch up to mama & papa

Could we get an update about the condition of the mama swan who's limping? Found out below that she was being monitored for the right time to be treated (in order to not leave the cygnets without a mother). Three years since then on, I hope she's keeping well with her mate.

I've been concerned about the wellbeing of mama swan as well. I tried following up on the case with Wildlife Victoria back in November 2019, but haven't received a reply back from them. I've also been back to the lake a couple of times to see if I could find the swans, but have had no luck there either 😔 However, if I do so in future, I will definitely update the story here and also upload a new video ☺

Congratulations to the person who filmed this whole process patiently. I am sure the viewers too, as I did, were watching this with bated breath, to see the little fellows make it successfully. It was so worth the watch. I admire the way the parents waited so patiently somewhat confidently , till they made it. What a 'family feel'! They didn't give up and go away. I sentimentally loved it. In the UK if you hurt a swan in the UK, you commit a crime against the queen. Swans in the UK are protected by the queen herself in a very old law. You can only hunt a swan with permission from the queen herself.

Yeah Swans have priority over all other animals. I once saw a guy walking up to swans to find one with a broken wing (he was with the RSPB).

Yes, survival of the fittest in nature. However, here, we are in a city park with somewhat tamed birds who, on top of it, are tagged. They should get help from a vet for sure.

Caring for it would be interfering. :-P We certainly do harm nature and interfere too much in a bad way though, I'd agree with that. Hopefully the swan was helped in a few weeks when the babies got big enough. It makes me wince to watch her though, that leg must have been very painful.

The limping adult is the father. He takes the defensive position in everything. He does need help but he might heal without it - but he has to defend his family so he wont do much to help himself for now. He trusts the people near his kids or he would take action, hurt or not.

My cats have me very well trained or it's too early to be up. Because my first instinct was to sit down & let the cygnets use me as stairs. That's what my cats do to get into the window above my bed. My other instinct was just to give their little butts a bit of a shove from my shoe tip when they were in the corner. In reality I'd probably just find a board, book or something for them to use as a set of stairs or ramp to help them get up. Especially since swans are very protective & strong. Or if I did give them a lift up I'd take off running afterwards.
