basically, they are shipped overseas where they are burned. India, for example, gets a lot of the plastic trash from Europe. When it comes to electronics, a lot ends up in Nigeria or other African countries. They burn the trash as well and release toxic gases while searching for noble metals. About the plastic in our oceans - the dude is quite right, there are few spots in the oceans where the dumped plastic washes up and technically builds an island. However, the bigger risk is that the plastic breaks down into microbeads which than will be swallowed by fish and end up on our plate.
