Ayla Rae is a 9-year-old aspiring actress, model, and most importantly, singer. Her parents reached out to me a few months ago asking if she could do a lesson with me and I was happy to work this little ball of sunshine because I had already been following her on Instagram and am a huge fan.
This is a lesson of me teaching her a song that she can use and be ready for the numerous auditions that she has. Ayla Rae has the perfect voice for "Rise Up" by Andra Day.

It’s really amazing to see people start singing at such a young age! Your videos inspired me to start singing again. Keep being an inspiration to all singers Ms. Porter! Also, on an unrelated note. I’m a male, and after puberty my vocal range dropped as expected. But now, I can barely sing the D next to middle C in chest voice. Is this normal and does anyone know how to practice singing higher if possible? Thanks!

In teenage boys, the vocal folds (vocal cords) thicken, lengthen and mature. It's normal sweetheart ❤ Keep on practicing but be careful not to hurt your vocal cords and avoid any damage 😘

Cheryl, my mother and I have been watching The Vouce Kids online together, and when she overheard this video, she asked if this was a coaching session I was watching without her. This needs a little bit time. I started to go on a sports field where no teams trained, just a few people doing fitness on their own. I started singing there. The cool thing is, people can hear the loud vocals where i am sure, but not the vocals that i failed because they were to far away me. Some told me, when they have heard me, that they enjoyed my singing. The more you hear it, the stronger you become and the less distance you need to other people. And at some days when I thought I was bad people had still admired me. That gave me the confidence, that even when you definitly fail a note, nobody cares about it; people see the good things in you. I can Tell you this: I am sure over 100 people in one year said to me that they found my singing good, and only 2 said something else, and that were a drunken man and two childs had nothing to do in their freetime. Now I'm singing in a tunnel to a party mile in my town and everyone thinks it is good and I still earned money with that. I never believed that would bei the case.

Hey Mama Cheryl! I am 13 (14 in May) and singing is my life. I began singing in Kindergarten because I fell in love with the movie “Frozen”, and loved listening to Elsa sing “Let it Go”. Present day, I participate in Show Choir and have had at least one solo at every choir concert and show choir show. After about 9 years of singing my heart out, I sound great, but lack technique. For my birthday, I asked for your 4 courses. If I don’t get the courses in May, I plan on buying them with money from helping my papaw. I am so excited to go on this journey with you, Mama Cheryl!
