8 week old German Shepherd puppy, Loki's first day at his new home. We think he likes it here.
This is 8 week old Loki, he is a pure bred german shepherd puppy. In one sense he's a baby, he's 8 weeks old on the other hand he's extremely smart as you can see in these videos. At 8 weeks we've already begun obedience training and house training or crate training is well under way. He's a great puppy and funny too! As an adult, my first shepherd died in a tragic car accident. Bringing him home was, I think, the happiest day of my life. And watching him die was by far the worst. I got a replacement dog about 6 months later, and it was bittersweet. But I'll never forget the day I saw my new puppy, my baby Beorn. It was a hard day in many ways, and it may not have been the happiest day of my life, but I think it was the best. Wishing you and your new boy many happy years.

God Bless....our pup is 5 months old and has changed our lives completely. We adopted him at 8 weeks old and he loves us so much, he actually hugs us. He gained 6.5 lbs in one month and now he is about 55 lbs. He goes to the dog park every day and he loves all the neighbors who live in our cul-de-sac. Basically, he has a reputation. What a gift. Since our last shepherd died it has been awful, now we are healed.

I lost my GSD best friend of almost 10 years about two years prior to making the video you watched and commented on, it was (and still is, years later) devastating. I miss him every day. The way I came to terms with losing my first best friend was, in almost 10 years, I had one bad day with him, one. The one bad day was the last day I ever saw him, it was awful but, it was a single bad day in 10 years. How many people, coworkers, family members, friends could I say I've had a single bad day with? Zero. I now smile every time I think of him but, even now a few years later, still chokes me up. Again, thanks for watching. I have a bunch of videos on here with Loki if you're interested. We got our longhair male at 7 weeks old and now he is ten weeks and he does sit, dance, speak, heel and down. He is also potty trained.and crate trainedThese are very smart dogs and I recommend that you start teaching them as soon as you get them. But don’t forget to make it fun for them. He has brought a lot of joy to us already. Congratulations! He is adorable ❤️

I’ve had German Shepherds since 1956, & they were always my best friend, male or female. I’ve had a lot of adventures with them, but honestly couldn’t tell you which one I loved more. I was very glad to see your puppy get a good home. I don’t have one now, because I’m too old, and don’t want to leave an animal without his master/guardian angel, when I pass, and my best friend without me being able to care for him/her. He’s adorable! I just wanted to pop on here and caution you about feeding him with elevated food and water dishes. This greatly increases the chances of him getting bloat (twisted stomach), which is deadly and kills them quickly. My best friend lost his four year old baby to bloat. Also giving them too much food at a time can do it. German Shepherd’s are predisposed to it almost more than any other breed. Not trying to be Debbie Downer, but I wish someone had told us about it before it was too late. It hits them very fast without warning. Please research it.

My 2 month old is panting and seems nervous. This is his 1rst night without his mom. I've had him for 5 hours now and he still wont drink any water or eat. I did get his tail to wag a few times and hes getting better with time. Is this normal behavior?

Hi Garrett. My pup dealt with his first week or so differently. At night while he was sleeping sporadically, he'd whimper and cry. We'd get up every 1/2 hour or so and take care of him, in no time, he knew we were his new family and we'd take care of him and love him. I hope your pup is doing better now. Thanks for watching.

When his vacation are all done,start walking him. My dog has to walk and play everyday and that keeps her from digging up the yard. Also hide treats and toy around to keep her busy. The 11/2 year is the hardest. But u will get what u put into ur dog. Traing is the most important,my dog is 6 and i still review commands .good luck.

I had them for 13 years, and we put him down three or four weeks ago because his legs were giving up and his hips were hurting him so bad that he can't live through the pain anymore. So after when he was gone I was very devastated because my German Shepherd helped me deal with some of my emotions like calming me down whenever I get angry or very upset, after when he's gone I was so lonely and I kept on seeing a shadow of him sitting in the hallways but when I look back he wasn't there and I was getting so emotional every day until now I'm still seeing him around but everytime when I look back my dog isn't there. But the good news is we're getting another German Shepherd puppy girl next year and we're naming her Cleopatra and I'm very happy and excited. Especially I would feel more happy again

Garrus, first off thanks for the great post. I went through exactly what you went through with my first german shepherd best friend, Loki is my second german shepherd pup. I lost my best friend almost three years ago, I still think about him all the time, as a matter of fact just typing this has me welling up. Just remember the great times you had with your pal and NEVER forget him. Thanks again for posting pal.
