I had a black lab who would see our toddler heading for the stairs and grab him by the suspenders, lift him off his feet, bring him back to a safe area then would go lay in front of the stairwell to keep him from approaching it. Or when he smelled a full diaper he would pick him up and bring him to one of us. Just amazing things all the time.

I remember when we got my American Boxer named baby (because she liked to be cradled like a baby). She would guard my bed every single night while I slept, but the moment my brother brought his son home (I was 16 and he was 20 and came back home until he could set up a place), she stood guard at the foot of his bed instead thinking that he needed more protection than me. I didn't begrudge my nephew though because the dog had the right instinct. I knew that dog would be bonded with me until she died. That was my girl. Animals are a blessing and and any who would harm helpless animals are my enemies.

One thing about some dogs, they recognize that the child is just a child. My grandkids are growing up with a 165lb Bull mastiff and they have put him through physical hell😊😊 but he understands!

I raised two boys. They're middle-aged now which might give a clue as to how ancient I am. Dogs ALWAYS around - kids and dogs belong together. , But... But... Please realise - when children and animals mix - how quickly things can sometimes go wrong. My wife's best friend is a court clerk. And she reports that in 90% of animal attack cases, there were owners sayjng "but she never did THAT before!" Sorry, sir/madam - you're still in BIG trouble. Don't mix kids and animals? I'd NEVER suggest that. Too many fond memories of boys in love with beasty besties. I've had so many dogs over the years. Never owned a cat - but I had dogs that did. The last dog passed 3 years ago. My wife is certain the cat died of grief. To be honest, I now miss my dogs (too old to take responsibility) more than I miss most people. But when animals and kids mix - please, please, people - keep your wits about you !
