I got a Malamute when I was 14, he got to be about 105 pounds. My neices were 4 at the time. They were his kids. They'd use him as a pillow while watching TV. If I got mad at them, Kobuk would talk angrily at me. I now have a Malamute again, 50 years later. She loves my grandkids. She loves all kids and puppies. Great family dogs for sure. This little boy will have those dogs wrapped around his pinky finger in no time!

Malamutes loves babies and kids; we got our Malamute when I was 10 and she was my best friend. That kiddo is in the safest of hands (paws) :)

For those who don't know, dogs have a strong sense of hierarchical respect. Normally it takes them a while to get to know the newborns because the mothers do not trust them to do any harm, even if it is involuntary because the babies are defenseless and weak. This is how they begin to know and respect them. Of course, the smell is the most important thing (there are few dogs that do not have a fine sense of smell).

Senior dogs are so precious! Our sweet Mason wasn't able to jump up in the last 6-8 months of his life (arthritis in the balls of his knees and then a bad back injury from getting startled during a thunderstorm), but he'd always give it the old college try, and then if/when that didn't work, you'd best believe he'd start howling until someone picked him up (literally only me and my sister were allowed to hahaha)

What kind of Pup was NATHAN??? My Pup PEANUT was a Lab/Dachshund mix. She lived to b 15. She loved my Son. We then got a Shitzu and named him KING. We had to Re-home him cause of Home health for my mom. King is in a Loving home, that's all that matters

Dogs are brilliant aren't they.....they just know. They might be a bit nervous & excited themselves at first but they do everything to reassure. These are clearly well loved & bonded dogs with their family....gentle giants. Trust your dog & they will trust you. My dogs totally protected & kept a watchful eye on my babies from the minute I brought them home.

I often wonder, because a dogs sense of smell is so advanced, given how protective they were around you when pregnant, if they could pick up baby Nathans scent while still inside you, and knew exactly who he was from that scent when he arrived (same with Mia when she was a baby)

20 years ago I brought a blanket home from the hospital so my Weimaraner could get the scent of my son before we brought him home. Worked a treat and I would recommend that to anyone bringing home a baby to any house with dogs.

As a person who was mauled at the the age of four by a dog i found this sweet to watch.. Your pets are clearly thrilled to see the little one. It took a few years but I no longer fear dogs & I live with three german shepherds. Your furry family clearly love you.....& will be very protective of the baby.

The baby is beautiful. Nico immediately realised who he is, what he is, and she is so happy. I feel a little sorry for Phil. He's very old and needs as much care as the tiny baby. And he was a bit offended that they didn't trust him and let him examine the baby thoroughly. And the two boys, well, they're boys. They want to play with him already.
