I know this is old but maybe there is explanation of why some seals have this odd behavior. 1. It's nothing other then just curiosity. 2. The seal had encounter other humans that either were friendly to him or saved their live. 3. Option 2 but with the parent that probably taught its pup to like humans. Good job on not giving them affection otherwise they could up being hurt by someone malicious.

@valhallagalex

@@peorakef it can be dangerous in two ways, first of all, no matter how cute a wild animal is a wild animal, it can bite you at any moment but the most concerning thing for people like the recorder isn't themselves being in danger, but the animal, if you pet it or do things that you shouldn't it might become used to interacting with humans and as it grows that gets progressively more dangerous for both it and the humans. it's why (in an extreme example) people are always told not to feed bears, you do not want wild animals to associate humans with food.

@fak series They are fools, they can't tell. What likely happened is the pups mom died and it was hungry, it was on the skinny side. It was attracted to the nets shape (designed to house a seal, it has a similar shape, they do not have great eyesight) and then just followed the people. @@High_Tech_Priest They are often considered a nuisance to fishers because they appear to create competition. But it's really man-made problems that create fish shortages, not the seals. Also, there is a seal hunting season in Namibia. Seal harvesting in Namibia targets approx 86,000 seal pups and 8,000 adult bulls per year. Trusting humans and their ships and harbors make them easy targets. Also having full grown seals who are interested in humans can be a nuisance issue and may lead to more people being inclined to interact with them. And you irritate wild animals enough they will eventually start being hostile to some people. They can be extremely territorial, especially when it comes to their babies. It's better to leave all wild animals alone unless you are a rehabilitator or are doing rescue work.

I think that pup shows the fine diversity of evolution. Exceptional curiosity can be a valuable tool for a species to adapt radically, these individuals are the reason some interspecies relationships are created, they find new techniques for hunting and survival, Many of them die but many are responsible for species wide social adaptation. Amazing stuff!

@@JohnSmith-uy7sv I get the feeling that if i tried answering your questions you wouldn't try to understand where the reasoning comes from. My father is a religious man and a scientific one, he accepts the scientific fact but maintains that god be the initial spark that set off a series of calculated and precise butterfly effects to manifest the universe in its completeness, i like his philosophy, hes not afraid or unwilling to learn and develop his worldly understandings. The pope has a similar way of thinking as do many of the men at the Vatican, the are highly educated men of science and incorporate new scientific theory into religion, the pope understands and accepts evolution and finds that it doesn't clash with the bible at all. what im trying to say, if the pope himself understand and embraces evolution, you should try to understand and embrace it too, have a great day my friend.

@@JohnSmith-uy7sv sure, I see you take the bible quite literally which is a bit unusual since in its raw unedited condition its supports slavery, child marriage, child sacrifice, persecution of homosexuals and routine mass genocide. To me the Bible shows God to be a tyrant dont you think? With the idea of creating beings just to worship it, and if you don't or you break its rules it will send you to a place to be tortured forever, seems psychotic to me.

Evolution is bankrupt. The fossil record shows fully formed creatures unchanged to today's equivalents. Still think you're the offspring of electrocuted pond slime? I'm guessing you also queued right up and took the old jibby jabby too! ROFL. Good luck willingly destroying your natural immune system!

It is good that you guys respect the laws of nature by not giving into the temptation of petting or coddling the seals. It is extremely important that they remain wary and on guard of humans, because unfortunately, not all humans have altruistic intentions as you guys do. Great work guys!

If my hunch is right I bet that friendly baby seal was fed food from a tourists or something. Because when Naude was down with both his hands closed it was sniffing at both hands. But what I like to believe is that his mom was rescued by them and she passed the story.

They're the dogs of the ocean. And if we were water-people, we'd keep them as pets. It breaks my heart to see our garbage hurting them so badly. It is my most fervent hope that humans will come to understand that we are THE keystone species on this planet, and that we are capable of always working with nature, rather than against it, and that one day we will undo much of the harm we have wrought on the other species of this world. You are a fine example of what being a keystone species is all about: helping to recognise and undo the harm we cause as a species. Taking responsibility for a small part of it, and doing your best for our animal friends. Thank you very kindly.
