Those rubber rings are called "O" rings, as long as you know the size you can buy bags of them quite cheaply.

So many great whistle makers nowadays, these look and sound quite good.

They sound pretty good. They also look very similar to the Chieftain Thunderbird line, especially the mouthpiece. Even the plastic cases looks identical to what Phil Hardy ships his whistles with.

Dixon whistles come in similar plastic boxes. It feels smoother in mouth than a Chieftain but it's a similar shape and sound 😊

o-rings are the term for the rubber and they can be purchased for pennies at the hardware store or Amazon. they need to remain lubricated to sustain long life with any non petroleum based gel lubricant like for spark plugs which can be purchased at automotive store

Hiya Stephanie, Great review, thanks very much. I've been looking at the Setanta high whistles for a couple of months on the Mcneela/ Killarney whistles website. I asked about them and they told me that they can supply a 'beginners' fipple with a 7mm mouthpiece for lower air requirements, on request for the same price. Love the jumper. David 😎❤️🎶

"Ashokan Farewell" is one of my favorites with the violin, concertina and harmonica. It sounds really nice on the tin whistle too. 😉By the way, for those who may not know, Jay Ungar's 1982 "Ashokan Farewell" was used for the title theme in Ken Burns' 1990 PBS miniseries, “The Civil War." 😊 ♫

Hey, I ordered a Setanta low whistle in D and I think it's ruined. I received my package and it was all water-logged. The case is soaked and the inside of the whistle was dripping 💦 wet. When trying to dry it out, I looked inside the flute body and I saw what looked similar to rust, it was all white patches inside the flute. I can't believe this low D whistle came to me in this condition. The outer packaging was only bubble wrap, and the plastic cases were soaked and so was the zippable cases, the product was completely soaked. The red/burgundy colored paper that was wrapped around the whistle was so damp it was just tearing up when I was trying to take it off the flute. Did your package come the same way or was it dry and in a protective box? The bag has been hanging up to dry all night and when I checked with my finger tips this morning the inside of the bag is still damp. I've tried to get a hold of the manufacturer to tell them the conditions of my whistle and have still not received a response. It's alot of money to loose if the product is ruined/damaged when I first received it.
@CutiepieTinWhistle3 жыл бұрын
I can't imagine water could damage a whistle and make it unplayable within the short postal timeframe, so the good news is, you should hopefully be able to play the whistle, though of course, no item should arrive like this. I'm guessing this is a postal service problem, where the item has been mishandled or left out in the rain/floods. That's something you'll need to take up with the Setanta, who will hopefully have postal insurance to cover damage to the items in transit.

Are you looking for a Low whistle or a high whistle? If you're just starting out, I usually recommend a Clarke Sweetone in D, it's easy to learn on and they're usually under £10.

@@mazkraut9776 It's the only low D whistle I have, and I have wondered about that. It's been a challenge for me, most especially going from the b to the octave d...
@mazkraut97765 жыл бұрын
@@rdouglas1965 I struggled with mine for a long time, thinking this low whistle playing was really difficult... Then I didn't play for a few years and when I started it up again I bought a Kerry Optima when they were on special offer. The Optima plays like a dream! I picked up the Howard again, and although I got a bit better on it, it was still really difficult to play cleanly on it. Since then I've bought another few low whistles, and the Howard remains the most challenging one. It might be the really big holes, especially on the left hand. Try another los D if you have the chance to, if nothing else just to get a comparison.

These look and sound very nice. But given the size and the price (over $600 US for the 3-whistle set), you might be better off buying an actual concert flute -- and then you can play in /all/ keys. BTW, they sound better /without/ all the digital reverb.
