The plastic construction that holds the flint and striker wheel on a Clipper can be pulled out and replaced. Try it, it's not that difficult. Might save the Clipper.

Don't forget, any lubricating oils burned away with the flames, so that probably is one reason for the tight responses.

From memory the "flint" in mose lighters and zippos is actually a scaled down ferrocerium rod. When they're exposed to high heat they don't burn, they actually become chemically inert (for the purposes of sparking).

Wow is the zippo community that mad you stress tested a few lighters? All your videos have been getting so many dislikes so quick. All I see is unique information and you spending your own money on what you want so there should be nothing wrong with that Thanks again for showing the after math and doing these tests so we don't have to

I have this little peanut lighter keychain that I got for free with an order from BladeHQ. Its a handy little shit that is great for a backup lighter and it has a rubber gasket around the cylinder that keeps the gas in there so that it doesnt evaporate overtime. its basically like the IMCO wick cylinder with a wheel flint right next to the wick and about the size of a peanut. Can't remember the name of it but it surprised me how well it works....I can send you mine if you wanna test it

You should do a test where you fill a zippo up then solder all around the top where the insert meets the case to seal everything except the wick hole then see how it burns for a long time

Hmm for the IMCO, i would have taken a skinny bamboo skewer and try pushing the wick through the hole that way, and grab it on the other end with pliers or tweezers. Good video! I've always wanted to get one.

Admit Jeff, like all your subs says, the biggest mistake is you're keeping the lighter lid for too long. I use the gasket too, I done have your problems cause it takes me three seconds to light a cigarette. Nice test and effort though. C U, Piggy.

cutlerylover Jeff, push some dental floss or a strand from some 550 cord down the hole. Tie it off to the wick then pull it back through. Try a knot similar to wrapping a knife handle so the wick comes straight up. Option 2 wrap the end of the wick with tape, similar to a busted shoe lace that needs an aglet. You should be able to push it through but will lose however much of the wick you cover in tape.

what about a oil soaked rope lighter? if the end is already charred, and the sparker is strong enough it could light up. if the oiled rope had a piece of fire cord wrapped or woven in with the rope it may light with just a spark.
@cutlerylover
@cutlerylover 5 жыл бұрын
the thing with the rope lighter is there is no flame just burning embers from the rope but it cant stand upward on its own even if you propped it up it relies on oxygen to burn so without touching it as the rope burns down into the tube that holds it and will be low on air and probably just go out...But Id say it burns cooler with no flame so you could probably hold it longer than a regular flame lighter like these

I've seen a video on YT where a guy removed the wheel on an insert Jeff, heated it up to cherry red and quenched it in water, replaced the rivet with copper wire/rod, recreated a rivet. He said the wheel would be annealed after long exposure to direct flame. Replaced everything and the spark was markedly improved. Be interesting to see these tested as to how long the wheel lasts now

that's why they're called "lighters." They are meant to be used momentarilly to light something else and then extinguished. If you need a small flame that will burn a long time, use a candle.
@cutlerylover
@cutlerylover 5 жыл бұрын
A lighter is a portable device used to create a flame, and to ignite a variety of combustible materials, such as cigars, gas stoves, fireworks, candles or cigarettes. It consists of a metal or plastic container filled with a flammable fluid or pressurized liquid gas, a means of ignition to produce the flame, and some provision for extinguishing the flame. Alternatively, a lighter can be powered by electricity, using an electric arc or heating element to ignite the target. the definition of a lighter has no limits as to how long they can or cannot burn neither does zippo make any claims their lighter can only be safely lit for short periods of time...its is only some peoples assumptions that "lighter" means a device that makes short bursts of flames...in fact a torch is just another version of a lighter that can burn hotter and longer...
