I absolutely LOVE the mix of the 2D faces and the 3D models. There's something so delightfully cartoonish about the way the characters moving so fluidly while the mouths switch between the preset flats as they talk that just fits the whimsical world.

It's not only 2d animated eyes/ mouth, but the fact skrimshaw's face markings track with the mouth movements is incredibly impressive, as well as the incredibly high quality animations + personality for pretty much every background character. pick one and they're doing something unique, like vibing bongo cat, or the top right drummer drumming with a knives (swords?), being scared of doing the harder drumming, and dropping one because of it

They focused on this, because they disliked how limited they were with expressions on their 3-D models, in The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. 2:24 The animation team absolutely must be proud of this animation, because it's absolutely beautifully done! Watch each character and you'll see them doing their own thing. When Scrimshaw says quick, watch the drums go in beat to match his movement as he dips the pirate cat he's dancing with. Later on after Scrimshaw scares the two cat pirates, you'll see them fly off in the background and flash like in old school anime. It's so smoothly done, full of personality and absolutely filled with passion. This alone makes me incredibly excited for the game. Yes, I've always been on board since hearing the first song but the animation has only gotten better and better with each new reveal, so I am absolutely stoked to play this!
