Cutting A Long Haired Guinea Pigs Hair

Hey guys. Pet scissors are the most important tool. I purchased mine at Pet Supplies Plus for $13.00. Take your time when cutting your guinea pigs hair and if you need help have someone help holding them. GOODLUCK!

this is so helpful! my pig rhys has so much long hair that it's always getting tangled and matted even with me combing him out every week, but me and my sister have been struggling with cutting it. i never knew about grooming scissors.

I've found that for my wee long haired beauty, I find it soo much easier to use a electric hair clippers instead of scissors! I tend to use grooming scissors for cutting off any stubborn matts (lets face it they appear faster than what you can brush out). I then use the clippers to cut the hair as if they were scissors - Don't use them to shave your guinea pigs!! - I just get a comb, get the hair to where I want to trim and then trim with the clippers across the comb (like what you would do with a pair of scissors.) Not only is it quicker but a whole lot less fuss and tugging. They are generally not very noisy and are easy to clean. I personally don't find hair trimming a wiggly little guinea pig a chore anymore. I can get it done quickly and she gets a whole lot less irritated that I am playing around with her fur. xxx

This really helped thank you I would use kitchen scissors to cut my guinea pigs hair and he would jump around and I didn't want to hurt him so it's been frustrating so this helped me a lot lol :)

I would suggest taking it to a groomer or a vet and have them shave it off professionally. You don't want to cut her skin because then a possible infection could occur. I've worked with matts that big but Ive had plenty of practice so I wouldn't advise doing it if you've never done it before.

I cut my guinea pigs hair because it was getting too long and it’s super hot in AZ... One wasn’t too happy, the other one loved it ☺️ She doesn’t step on her lower butt hair anymore

So cute lol my Guinea Pig is the SAME EXACT as yours! No Difference at all! Color in the same spot and everything! But she will Freak if I cut her hair or even dare to put water on her. I'm going to have to cut my guinea pig's hair. Maybe her cagemate will be less tempted to chew it. I'm amazed at how still your guinea pig is in the video. I could never put mine on a sink like that because I would be afraid that she'd fall since she's so squirmy about things like that.

Sometimes they are so hard to handle that you just need someone else to hold. I picked up some pet clippers and am going to try to use those and see how they work. I know people have very mixed emotions on that. Bu thank you very much!

I just cut my pigs hair for the first time, but it was a little difficult because he's not only long-haired but also Abyssinian (which I didn't know until I cut his super long hair because the weight kept it flat), so now he's looking a little choppy. What do you suggest for the next time?

I cut my (Peruvian) boys, Axl, dreads towards his back yesterday. He was pretty mad at me. I let him run away from me a couple of times. Sometimes I would just pick him up to kiss on him. I felt bad :/. Softly telling him I was sorry but I had to do it. He bit me once. Not hard but that was it. But he kept whining & eventually was like ok fine 😤. I did it by myself, so it was harder. Afterwards, I had to show him his dreads. He looked at them. I'm pretty sure he knew the cut was needed & I wasn't just "torturing"him for the fun of it.
