Continuing videos series of the restoration of my 17 foot Arima Sea Chaser.
I finally hit the midway point of my restoration and in this video I will be cutting my starboard to make new panels, filling in the pedestal holes on the deck, along with the beginning installation of my newly cut starboard panels in the boat.
It feels good to finally get to this point as cutting, trimming, and routing the panels took such a long time.

Seriously, wood replacement has me concerned and the simplicity of the solution made me say, "DUH". Awesome work.

@@sportsman48 I too was hesitant on removing the wood and installing starboard, mainly because of how straight the panels would turn out with using a jigsaw. Lesson learned, make cuts with a jigsaw at least 1/8” over size, all around, and know any non smooth wood panel edges will be magnified 100 times on the starboard when trimming with a router. So make sure to keep 1 long and wide enough piece of starboard with a smooth factory edge on hand that you can use on panels that are not smooth, to be able to retrim 1/16” off for a clean flush trim. These things were my saving grace in getting clean edges. It took me a few days and it’s a slow process, from taking everything out, cutting, trimming, router, and installing these pieces, worth it, yes, but man I’m so happy to have finished 🎉😆 Thanks for watching!

Year of the boat I built the decks for them in the 80s.

Thats really cool. The deck on mine is solid and the reason for me adding foam was, one of the port side area cavities was void of foam and a small area, when stood on, you could hear the old foam compressing (cracking sound). Not a big deal, but since I had the hole form removing the old pedestal there, I filled it in to quiet the sound.

@@joepeltola52 The PO added and added and added stuff, but never removed the old wiring. It was a wiring mess, made a rats nest look organized. I did a rewire on my SC16 and I’ll be doing the same with my 17 here in a couple weeks, finishing up on some gelcoating now. One thing I found when pulling off the wood panels was 1 panel had, “Made In USA By Arima”. This wasn’t a stamp or a aluminum plate, but hand written, so this was pretty cool to me, to see how proud you guys were in your craftsmanship. Thanks for checking out the videos!

I am so glad I got in touch with you, I received my boat last night , Bought the boat unseen from a guy in Oregon and paid a transport company to deliver it. This is for sure going to be my first mod, The current wood is not all that bad but after seeing your boat ,it's a no brainer to get it done before I even take the boat out. Great video. My seats were replaced and the PO moved them from the original placement and the OG pedestal holes are exposed but filled in with caulking or marine tex or something similar so i will be addressing that as well . Great job Johnny

Awesome, I remember the day the shipper dropped off my boat, great day! Yes doing the starboard is pretty basic, just time consuming and a mess. I think in the video prior to this one is where I was removing them. Remember to address the important things first like what the guys listed on the AO site. The rewire is the most important thing above everything else and should be the first thing you do if it’s old original wire, it’s not hard to do. Draw everything up and post your diagram on the AO site and everyone will help you out to make it perfect and give advice on what you should purchase. If you’re wanting to jump in and replace your boards right away, doing the rewire at that time will make things easier instead of doing a rewire twice.

I know of a few shops from Washington to California so it depends on where you're located. The stuff is super heavy and having it delivered would be really expensive, so picking it up is the best thing.

@@SoCalSeaChaser I live it the san Francisco Bay area so I'm guessing Eplastics in San Diego is the best option. Did it take you 2 sheets to complete it all? And what thickness did you go with?

@@MrKwhited Give TAP Plastic in the Bay Area a call, they should have starboard. I bought mine from Professional Plastics in Fullerton. They also have a location in Sacramento. I used 1 and a half sheets, but the Sea Hunter I believe has less and smaller panels. Best thing to do is remove all your old panels first and lay them out in a 54”x96” area, remember to give some space for cutting. This will help you determine if you’re going to need one or more sheets. The board you’re going to want to get is: 1/2” starboard and the color is “SEAFOAM”, that’s the color the factory uses. The code Professional Plastic uses for this board is: SSTARSF.500X54.000X96.000 Are you on Arima Owners?
