Oh my! What is that gorgeous shrub behind you in all its fall glory, over your right shoulder? Fothergilla maybe? Thanks for all the great tips. Update: just read thru other comments and learned it’s a hamamelis or witch hazel! The other day I was browsing the net, plant dreaming, of course, and came across various cultivars of hamamelis and decided I needed at least one of these in my garden. This shot of you in front of yours confirms it!!! 🧡💛

This is the first year I am cutting almost everything back - really bad fungal issues throughout so all the detritus is going in the trash. I usually leave the same plants up through winter that you do, but this year I'm worried the fungus will overwinter. It was so bad that I may need to treat everything in the spring with copper fungicide (yikes!) And then add back micorrhyzae in late June. So sad. I love watching the Goldfinch hang on the echinacea stems to eat seeds.

Another great video! You have a beautiful garden Yuliya! I garden in Calgary, Alberta Canada, zone 4, so my cleanup has been done for awhile. We live in a 'Chinook' zone so our temperatures can swing wildly in the winter! Plus, we get lots of drying, warm winds coming over the Rockies. Nice for humans spending time outside, but not so great for the plants. I cut down most of my perennials - tossing anything diseased into the garbage and the rest on my compost pile. Then, I throw down bone meal and top the beds with shredded leaves and wait for spring.

Hi Yuliya 😊 Thanks for posting. Good info. I have some advice for others questioning when to prune their plants. If not searching on line, your Nursery will have information for you. They have printed info they will give to you on various plants, if you ask. As for me, I live in an association and am on the list for no pruning or trimming shrubs. Unfortunately this year as did 2 years ago, they came through and tore off my plants. It upsets me so, but nothing I can do anything about. It hurts me personally as I do not treat my pretty girls like that. Heurcheras, Hellabores and ferns, among others. I had already done my fall cleanup choices. Here's prayers for next year! Hope all is well, and Happy 🦃 Day, dear! xo

any and all perennials provide a lot of shelter for wintering insects, seeds for birds, etc. cutting them down in the spring and leaving them on the ground provides nutrients for the soil; same with fall leaves
