Nice video Jeff! I think on your next video, do just one lug and casing section in real time. Just so people can get an appreciation for how much time is involved in scooping and grooving tires. Amazing work as always!

Loved the video, a bit of constructive criticism though. Might work on your audio levels while editing, had to turn the volume up quite a bit to hear you but in the timelapses I got blasted by music

@@sizemattersoffroad9103 I've done some of this kind of video/audio work before and one of the easiest things you can do is run everything through a compressor to make the audio a little more consistent but it really just needs some practice. There's a lot of good guys on KZbin who know more than I do about it.

@@sizemattersoffroad9103 Doesnt it weaken the tire to cut it down to the cords? I would think you would be at risk of getting a puncture from a stick or rock in a situation where you are riding at an offroad park going between mud holes.

How do you know how far to cut before you get to cords? With any tire. Want to start grooving tires but not really sure where to start as far as how deep to go
@masterwindleborn4 жыл бұрын
This looks so good! But what's the full purpose of taking so much rubber off isnt that weakening the tyres and making them unsafe with all that rubber missing from side walls and that?
@chrishamilton25594 жыл бұрын
Not really. AG tires are engineered to have extra puncture survivability(ie thickness), but these are not going on an implement, they're going on a mudtruck, so rotational friction loss is much less.

@@sizemattersoffroad9103 I grew up grooving my tires for atv racing. Now I do it to increase traction, reduce weight and look badass on my daily drivers. Reducing that unsprung weight will add a few horsepower to the ole seat o the pants feel.

Hey man how in the hell do you even come close to balancing those tires? Is it a close enough is good enough or if needed no harder than a tire that hasn't had you magic done to it
@JD-mq8ej3 жыл бұрын
Never seen someone balance an ATV tire. You aren't riding over 20mph with these. Balance is not a factor when there is several hundred pounds of mud in them.
@TheBestOrion4 жыл бұрын
This doesn't weaken the tire? Like between the studs where it's now thin.

I stumbled on to this video why would one do this?
@sizemattersoffroad91034 жыл бұрын
Main reasons for cutting tires are to reduce rotating mass which frees up wasted horsepower, added traction and flexibility of the tire. Tires like this are intended for a tractor so they can be lightened your to use for other applications
