Cutting down valve guides on stock heads for positive seals and smooth stem valves.

I like to do as much as possible in house before sending anything out. This video shows a bone stock set of heads that ate being updated on a stock rebuild.

So this tool topped the guide too , right ? that way u can lower the seal a bit on the guide gain some retainer to seal clearance and run a higher lift camshaft

Where do I get the tools? Arbor guide and cutter needed, specifically 8mm arbor and .500 seals.

Any machine shop probably has them. Goodson will have them probably.

If you have vortec it will not be 8mm, that is LS and AFR

What is a smooth stem valve and is there another kind?

Yup the early style guides that didnt use positive seals can be pretty rough looking, the old umbrella seal stuff.

@@Spiritof_76 ah right, im thinking that might refer to a single groove stem , one that doesn't have the second groove for the o-ring , a single groove stem allows for a shorter retainer and allows more retainer to seal clearance for a higher lift cam.
