I kind of like watching the shaper doing its job. We had a brand new one in High School metal shop, and couldn’t see the versatility of it. Someone purchased a very low time machine for a pittance after CNCs took over the world. Most schools here have eliminated any classes which could possibly bring blood stains, and really great tooling was sold off for scrap prices. Enjoy your work and I’m sure Kurtis will be grateful for your help in getting his new old stock monster peeling chips again! Though you don’t show a energetic shop dog and have a laughing choreographer, I enjoy your demonstrations of the metal workers art! Cheers from the Canadian Border of New York

Thank you for the excellent video! I applaud your choice to use the time lapse and/or skipping through sections of the long and tedious machining steps. It gets pretty dull watching my own machines perform these kinds of operations, and watching someone else's machines do them when I'm trying to learn something new bores me out of my mind. Watching long boring clips of other people's machines runnung is the number one reason that I've stopped watching quite a few machining-related channels. One other thing that I appreciate about your videos is the detailed and sensible explanations that you give to go along with with what you're showing. You don't just tell us what you're doing (which anyone watching can plainly see), but you take the time to explain WHY you're doing it the way you are and how that part/operation/etc. fits into the overall project. Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience, and you get a huge 'thumbs up'👍from me for skipping/fast-forwarding through the tedious parts.

Matty, so glad you’re feeling better. In my opinion, the most interesting aspects of machining is the explanation of the setup. As you know, there are so many ways to physically achieve the desired result. I find that providing the details of why …. and showing how the part is physically setup (especially on a shaper) to be much more interesting and useful than watching more than a just few seconds on the shaper action itself. With that stated, showing the action for whatever machining process that was employed reinforces the explanation of why that process was selected. Parts came out perfect like everything you touch. 👍😎👍

There's a trick for that.... If you're holding the work in a collet block or the rotary table/indexer, just take a second cut at 180° to the first, then the groove will naturally be on centre. Obviously a bit more involved if you want to hit an exact size, but for a screwdriver slot it should be adequate.

G'day Matty. Great job making the parts for Kurtis, I always like a bit of shaper work. It must have seemed a bit odd Kurtis asking for your help, I suppose it saved him setting up for such small work. Cheers Peter

Gday Peter, it was good doing a job for Kurtis and I think he’s that busy there’s no real time for little jobs like this, thanks for watching and commenting mate, Cheers

Nicely done, Matty 😊. Slotted bolts have been my go to as well lol. At least until I attempt to make a rotary broach 😉.

Gday Chris, I made a rotary broach and it works really good, nice easy build to mate, thanks for watching, cheers

Matty for the shaper - millions of people watch tennis on the box, maybe try a camera angle that matches :) look left, look right, look left, look right... you might have to add lib the umpire abuse and tantrums though.

Hi Matty. I'm going to show my ignorance about shapers here, but could you not have set the tool to 60° and used the X axis feed (i.e. not moving the Z axis). Surely that would have given a cleaner cut than the 'staircase' generated by incrementing down the slope? Just a thought. Would be interested to know what you think. Glad you are feeling better.

Gday Olly, the way I should have done this is I should of made a fixture that held the 60º flat horizontal then I could of used a shear tool to get the ultimate finish, thanks for watching, Cheers

Nice job sir! I love watching shaper work as do many others as I've seen such comments on Abom79's and Steve Summer's channels. I've only just found your channel Matty and I am enjoying your content. Just subbed! I also love young Kurtis's Channel and all of his heavy engineering content

Thanks for sharing 👍 I know the shaper is a pain to set up but you can't argue with the finish.

To setup a shaper isn't more or less pain than setting up any other machine. It's all part of the fun.

Gday, you can't beat a shaper finish, nice straight lines are the best, Thanks for watching, cheers

Matty, some time when you have nothing to do, try grinding a full half radius on a piece of HS stock. this will give you a great finish due to there never being a sharp corner when the bit steps down. Grind it to look like a button insert.

Gday Adam, this would be very similar to the shear tool I have, I should of made the fixture differently to cut the angle, thanks for watching, cheers

Thanks for the vid - some real quality parts you have made there. Talking of shapers - any news on the restoration collaboration of Kurtis' Klopp 1000H Shaper? All the best from the UK, Paul

Gday Paul, thanks for the kind words, i'm still going up to do the shaper of CEE, just waiting for Kurtis to catch up a bit and get things organised, Thanks for watching, Cheers

I agree with your observation that it would have been better to make the jigs at 45 and 60 degrees and then you could cut it flat on the shaper. My shaper table is just big enough for me to mount the GoPro on for filming. Anyway to make a bracket or something to fix to your table to hold your camera?

Gday Tom, I should have made a different fixture setup but never mind, thanks for watching and commenting mate, Cheers
