If your cutter uses a mount wall saw make sure to leave them a good foot to foot and a half on the left side specifically (if cutting from outside which is best option weather permitting) so they don’t have to do upside down cuts I hated making them makes a big mess when I used to cut. also if basement finished you use a tub and plastic will contain all the water that gets inside. And GRAVEL GRAVEL GRAVEL. jth btw 😅

Hi Joel, thanks for the information. Question, could the same technique be used to cut the wall of a 8 inch thick wrap around porch? The slab of the porch is 6 inches thick. The wall is 11ft tall and i would only be cutting a 5 ft x 4 ft egress? The top of the egress would be 4-5 ft below the top of the wall. Do you think the wall would still be structurally sound with the use of a lintel? Thx Scott
@TodaysTask2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know for sure when it comes to brick. I would contact and engineer for sure. That would be money well spent in my opinion.

You're going have to put lintels in both side of the walls for sure. I'm a professional concrete cutter and have cut way bigger opens through block walls. But find out the type of lintel and size requirements and you'll be fine.
@MathuSmyth1 Жыл бұрын
I'm about to be expanding a doorway in my home in a block wall. Just out of curiosity, do you only need one lintel? I was under the impression you needed one on both sides. Or is that because it's solid concrete?

It depends on what the engineer wants. He will take the roof and floor loads into consideration.

@virgleo4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joel! I have a helpful suggestion about the master bath. Don't put the door to the closet in the bathroom, put the door to the closet in the bedroom, that way if someone is using the bathroom, you can still have access to the closet. When a closet is in the bathroom it's a big pain in the a$$. Let me know what you think, It really is a big deal.

How big does the window have to be for egress?
@jonb6474 Жыл бұрын
I'm a professional concrete cutter and do these all the time. You're wanna look up building code for your area. Basically there is gonna be a maximum height for the bottom of the window so that small children or a elderly person can get out easily as well as a way to easily get out of the window well it's self. I believe there may also be different requirements on how the window opens and how much the window has to open to easily get out. Also remember when you dig out the dirt for the egress window well on the outside make sure you have very good water drainage in place. This not only keeps water out of the window well but also keep water away from the foundation.
