Since I’ve been collecting crystals my 10 year old son loves to learn about them. He will bring home different looking rocks everyday and ask me if they are crystals and if we can break them open to see. I think getting a saw like this will make him happy and help him learn more about the rocks he finds 😍 maybe he will want to be a geologist when he grows up 🥰

Pursue it and see if he sticks with it. Man do I wish I did. Rocks and crystals are one of the coolest natural phenomena that we get to witness as far as I’m concerned

Love your videos and I’ve got to say that I’m thrilled to see your new saw w/ a vice option! I’ve been a rock enthusiast forever but as a nurse my heart skips beats when we watch you cut smaller rocks by hand!🫣
@rumpy933 Жыл бұрын
I find it interesting that when you open up a cut agate and do the reveal, sometimes you flip them over because they look "upside down". It's weird because there's no top or bottom, but i almost always agree with the way you flip it to be oriented. Just an observation lol
@AgateDad Жыл бұрын
Isn’t that sooo funny!!! I catch myself doing that during the editing and think, “why did you flip it?!”

@AgateDad see, you're an even better creator than you thought, you always want the best angle/view without even planning it
@rumpy933 Жыл бұрын
That's my thought too. Why did he flip it? It looks right to me, too, but why? It's not like there's an up or down. It's just a rock! lol @@AgateDad

I’m still in the process of setting up my rock shop in my “Artist Asylum” 😁 so I haven’t tried my new Hi-Tech 10” yet. I also purchased the vice that comes with it. Thank you Taylor for showing how to use the vice vs by hand and the difference it makes. You’re the first rock hounder/slabber I’ve seen do that. Seeing demos on using and maintenance of a saw is very helpful. Could you please also demonstrate and explain your method of sharpening the blade?

I have the 10" saw with the vice and really like it so far for the little I have used it. The vise does have it's limits as far as getting rocks clamped in the way you want to cut them and is a bit fiddly getting it set. It's definitely better for more blocky shapes than rounded and the jaw opening is limited. Still, I'm glad I got it so I can make cuts with parallel faces for cabs. I did replace the Philips head screws with slightly longer 5" bolts with hex heads so I can use a wrench on them.

What saw blade did you use in this video? I have the thin sintered saw blade (red) and it hasn't been performing as well as yours did, even after using a dressing stick. Usually takes 5-10 minutes for one LSA and often skips and slows... Thanks in advance!
@AgateDad Жыл бұрын
I was using a 6” thin sintered from HTD, this was brand new and first use. I have cut a lot with it and can tell it slowed down after that, might just be a shorter lifespan due to its thinness.

I'm new to this and to your channel. We are trying to determine which Hi Tech Diamond saw to buy. (We will use your code when we decide to buy one). We will primarily be cutting smaller rocks, but we also want the capability to buy larger rocks. I know that the 6" would be for smaller rocks, but can the 10" slab saw also cut smaller so that we only have to buy one machine?
