Some form of silicon sealant to prevent the flow of material into the hollow handle, it won’t be the same in every paddle since it doesn’t have a function other than for sealing, IMHO. The fabrication of the upper part with the type of materials used is taking care of the dampening and the fact that handle is hollow. It’s a pretty impressive fabrication. Hitting the face of the paddle w/ the hammer caused puncture and not delamination. Delamination happens when layers (ply) of thin composite such as carbon fiber or fiberglass separate from each other, or when it peels off the substrate to which it adhered to. I play with the Control Air Invikta and I’m very happy with how it performs, smart fabrication!

Diggin these. Love seeing the cheapies as well. Maybe get into some $50 Amazon paddles sometime would be cool. On these its interesting you dont really see all that carbon fiber like you did on that Juciao one. The grit on those Juciao is pretty crazy

Im guessing the silicone gel type material was added for couterbalancing the heavy 20m core head and also provide vibration dampening. Probably a contributing factor to the super plush feel of the Luxx. There is a company marketing replacable grit top layers for various paddles. Chris Olsen and Will covered them a few months ago. Keep up the great content Ed!

There's a company called Reload that's working on replace textured face that's like a sticker. Supposedly coming out this year

Oh man, I’m so stoked for that. That’d be a game changer. Apparently it’s already USAP approved according to their website. Hopefully it’s reasonably priced.

Spray on grit would be too hard to regulate. I’m excited for the idea of replaceable sticker faces tho!

The soft material in the handle is probably intenttional for DAMPING - providing a softer feel. Otherwise the hollow hard handle will vibrate quite a bit. Also probably for the balance. So the Q is whether the Power Air vibrates more which it hits the ball....

Ed, is the surface spray on grit on both the LUXX and the Power air? Just got mine and sad to hear that it will wear out! To your question: Sustainability speaking, it’s more environmentally friendly to repair and reuse rather than discarding the paddle and buy a new one. So I’m team spray!

@@test43913 To someone with your utility for money, it is, of course. Let’s say you make $300 an hour. You try the $250 racket, and it makes your game much more enjoyable. Do you really care about the extra money? Not likely. Also, if you truly believe it’s a ridiculous price, then have you thought about making paddles? If you can make an equally good product and charge much less then you could make a lot more money. Yet no one is doing that, are they?

How much is a lifetime warranty worth? Lifetime replacements when it eventually fails, if you get one replacement, you paid $125 a paddle.
@swampy47017 ай бұрын
Read their life time warranty. It only covers manufacturing defects. Won’t help when the grit is gone

This technology is being used for many years in marine industry to build boats, and also furniture for boats and airplanes and so on. Most companies just cut the paddles out of those panels(building material)! and charge oblivious pickleball players ridiculous money for it. And that's why the rule book is so specific about the materials, somebody is getting rich and that's why the referees are always favoring the sponsored players using the suspiciously imperfect rules from the same book. Some arrogant players shamelessly use it for their advantage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2eVmphqfJWHe68 I'm using that example because it was good match and also the "hard work" of the reffs to keep the #1 player in tournament (more viewers = more $) didn't work that time.🤣🤣🤣

If people were allowed a spray on how would that be controlled? Like what if one person sprayed one layer and another guy sprayed three layers on..if that’s even possible. I would think hard to regulate? LOL!!!
