What's amazing is that Messick's is STILL cheaper than my local Kubota dealer even when shipping is factored in. $88.93 for a HHTA0-59900 Hydraulic Filter ($75.98 + $12.95 shipping) from Messick's vs $96.60 locally ($90.28 + $6.32 tax).

I will be ordering from Messick's then for my next filter set.

I agree with the old adage penny wise, pound foolish. If you are making the large investment in a machine, take care of it and don’t skimp on parts! Great review Neil and nice touch to have the Outdoors with the Morgans coffee mug front and center 😃

Amazon is a cancer. It’s a race to the bottom and many bow to their alter. Not everything is Chinese knockoff garbage. Just plenty of it… You are free to make your choices but you’re not free of the consequences. I’m old school. I buy sloppy Kubota parts and don’t worry about sloppy specifications. Factory parts are usually pretty tight in doing the right job. And, I buy from Messick’s on line. I’d rather support the guy that puts out lots of educational videos and has taught me much on farm equipment. Their prices are competitive, don’t worry about knockoffs pulled out of the ‘failed quality control’ dumpster and sold on FleaBay and he seems like a nice guy. Happy to support those who support us.

Great video. I don't have a Kubota, I have a Massey. I see people all the time posting on Facebook looking for aftermarket filters, trying to save a few dollars. I paid a lot for my machine and I will not risk it to save a few dollars on filters or hydraulic fluid.

I have a substantial investment in my tractor and I’m not taking a chance on after market filters. For me it’s genuine Kubota products all the way. Thanks Neil for a very informative and educational video.

I like the piece of mind of putting kubota parts on my equipment. Yeah cost more but I have got good service out of this mower the last ten years and the tractor as well

The spring in the spin on filters is not for a bypass mechanism, it's purely to push the filter element into the threaded base for sealing.
@Redneck_Ed
@Redneck_Ed 3 ай бұрын
I've commented the same in the past snd Messicks even has another video addressing this and reiterating the same thing about the spring, never looking at the bottom center of the canister for the actual bypass that is built into it for engine oil filters or missing for most hydraulic filters which have bypass elsewhere in the hydraulic system. I even ran this question by whipcitywrencher which is a channel all about filters and he agrees. The coil spring we see in this video is only for seating the canister filter snug into the canister housing.

I just did the 50hr service on my mx5400. Purchased from my local Kubota dealer. Not cheap, but really surprised/disappointed they were made in China.

When factoring in the duration between fluid and filter changes, it is worth spending more for a filter that you know will meet the manufacturer's filtering requirements. Maybe one day, specifications for all of the filtering parameters will be published and after-market will also, honestly but unlikely, publish their filtering specifications for comparison.

I tried an after market hydraulic filter. It leaked around the seal. A factory filter solved the problem. Lesson learned.

Many years ago I worked for a company that made a "rubber "gasket valve cage for a fuel filter. After market spec for material was "black" OEM specified Viton a much more expensive material designed to be compatible with gasoline.

There are very good aftermarket filters. I have JD. But i can buy oem from my dealer for cheaper than I can after market from parts stores. Always check dealership.

I paid 40 Grand for my Grand L tractor. I wont use anything except Kubota brand OEM filters for the life of the machine. Oil and filters is one thing I do not play with.

I liked the filter elements with a permanent can. You got to look at the filter element without having to cut up the can.

Or you can walk into your store and buy filters. That's what I just did and they were cheaper than the identical filter on Amazon

I always support oem filters for the most I’ve seen direct replacement aftermarket filters fit not as well or smaller in physical size but then again tractor companies typically don’t own there own oil filter factories i know fleet gaurd makes some for cnh and wix does for other brands i believe but then interchanging those is no problem if u don’t want to do research and buy proper aftermarket just buy oem its safe and easiest

Maybe the phrase "penny wise and pound foolish" saving a peeny today on filters to pay a pound later in repairs

Hmmm. Let’s see. How many pennies can you save by using an off-brand filter on your $50,000+ Kubota? The correct answer is you do not want to find out. Seriously, how dumb must you be to do this. Thank you for this excellent video.

I use dealer fluids and filters on my gravely mower, Kubota tractor and Bobcat diesel UTV. Only one that’s a real ripoff is Bobcat as they hide the specs on everything, including fluids. Lesson….dont buy Bobcat anything. Don’t think they make anything themselves. The engine oil simply says engine oil on it with no SAE ratings etc. made by Polaris but they charge extreme for everything….not trying to take away from topic, but will take opportunity to save others misery if ya considering Bobcat (do t do it)….oh yeah, the Bobcat dealer doesn’t stock filters or seals and expect you to pay freight on them to be delivered to their dealership.

Why do people skimp out on something like filters? The price is seldom lower, and with manufactures you know what your getting.
