Hey Bob, I'm glad to see you're back to producing videos, I know it's a pain filming and editing but speaking on behalf of your subs it's the best boat restoration content available. Can't wait for the next! Brian - Marco Island, FL

Hi Brian , thanks for the appreciation concerning the filming and editing aspect of the project. I actually ended up filming more than I anticipated during the break but it was a nice load off of my shoulders to not be editing for awhile. I'm glad you enjoy the content and I'm back at the editing for this weeks video. Thanks for watching and the encouraging comment. - Bob

impressed with your attention to detail. nice to see somebody who cares about quality results. two thumps up !

Thank you Thomas for letting me know that you appreciate the attention to detail. I'm well aware that it takes longer to get things done but I'm fine with that. It makes me happier to get things the way I want them than to get things done fast and I find with a project like this you need to be happy doing it or you give up. - Bob

Sometimes showing the amount of work that goes into the little details give me the most respect for what you’ve accomplished this far! Keep up the great work! I can’t wait for the next video! Glad to see the boat again!

Thanks for the comment Zach. Yes the detail adds some time to each step of the project but I’m ok with it as I’m not setting a hard time frame for completion.Being happy with the result is more of my priority. Thanks for watching & I’m looking forward to sharing the next video.- Bob

Welcome back Bob! Hope you had a nice break. Good to see "our" boat again and how great she looks. I'm always amazed at how good the hull looks on a '73. I think we have a winner there. Take care, Jerry

Hi Jerry, Nice break & Good to be back. A little slow on replying to comments though. Really busy summer this year. Unfortunately not all boat stuff. What I have done on our boat is looking good. Hope to pick up the pace through the fall. Hope all is well and as always great to hear from you in the comments. - Bob

Hey Bob, nice to see you're back! Sanding is a boring job but unfortunately it has to be done! Still I have to admire your perseverance! I still haven't been to Ireland to work on my boat! My flights were canceled again, so I decided to go with the ferry from Cherbourg France to roslare ierland and take my rv and my tools and do 3 weeks of solid work on the boat! Keep up the great work and greatings from Maria and Jeroen from Bavaria Germany

Hi Jerome, talk about perseverance. Getting to your boat seams to require a lot more than doing the sanding. I’m feeling lucky to be doing it now. Sounds like quite a road trip. I hope all goes well and you are able to get lots of work done when you get there. Stay well. - Bob

A lot of folks don't realize how much prep goes into some jobs in restoring boats or catamarans. Very labor intensive when you have to clean up shoddy fiberglass work!
@renovationsportfish15633 жыл бұрын
I didn’t realize it either until I started. I did mostly car restoration/modification which isn’t as labor intensive to do a full restoration and you don’t seam to find as many surprises. Thanks for the comment and watching. - Bob

On my first boat project now 19ft coming to the end on the transom rebuild.no where near your scale but I've found your videos very helpful. Awesome work

In hindsight I probably should have started with a smaller project. I’m glad you find these videos helpful but remember that this is also my first boat project. I’m learning myself. Thanks for the comment and for watching. - Bob

Your boat looks great. I stopped working on mine till October. So hot here the pvc hoop shelter melted and sagged on top the boat.
@renovationsportfish15633 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The heat is a big factor this year here as well. I haven't had anything melt on me yet. Yikes! Just some premature epoxy kicks. I'm looking forward to the cooler weather myself. Thanks for watching & the comment. - Bob

Starting refurbishing of a 1967 Tollycraft and would love advice on bringing the interior back to glory. It looks to be Mahogany veneer. What is the best way to restore this type of finish?
@renovationsportfish15633 жыл бұрын
Hi Donna, I'm not a professional at this so my advice would be one DIYer to another. I would say the most important thing about refinishing veneered plywood would be to use care in removing the old finish. The veneer is surprisingly thin. The method I use and describe here can be seen in my episode 78 where I prepare my port settee for future varnishing. I start with a good surface cleaning (didn't film that). I then hand sand off the old varnish with 150 grit paper on a sanding block going in the same direction as the wood grain. The paper clogs up pretty quick so I change it often to keep things moving. I sand most of the varnish off this way but don't try to get it 100% off. Just as much as I can without sanding the wood veneer too much. I sand with finer grits to whatever the varnish manufacturer's recommends before varnishing. The port settee in episode 78 is only sanded with the 150 in the video. I haven't varnished it yet. Waiting for nicer weather. In episode 29 you can see the results of refinishing some of the same type of veneered plywood in the v-berth. I do not use expensive varnish in the interior of the boat. I don't stain any of the wood. Just varnish. I prefer to use a brush to apply the varnish. In Episode 32 I do some interior wood varnishing if you want to check it out. I guess that's about it. Best of luck with the boat refurbishment. Thanks for watching and the comment. - Bob

Looking great, Bob. Yes, that paint can opener comes with the little hook on the end. Great creativity on using it for another purpose! ... I don’t remember what your plan is regarding new fuel tanks, but Kevin of Shot’s Life was very happy with the fuel tank he bought from Patriot Marine Fabricating. www.patriotmarinefab.net (I have no affiliation with them, just passing along some info.)

Hi Neil, Thanks for the comment & the link. Still have not ordered new tanks. I first have to decide on engines. Gas or diesel. I need to make that decision sometime soon I guess. - Bob
