THANK YOU MATT AND BROOKVILLE FOR RESPECTING THIS 32 FORD ROADSTER AND GIVING IT A NEW LIFE AGAIN!!!
@DuckReach4322 жыл бұрын
The roadster pick-up's first tyre chirp! I can see why you weren't looking forward to all that. Not just the mess, but a day of cutting and destroying old metal instead of crafting and fabricating. Still, imagine if you could go back in time ninety years and speak to the guys on the Ford assembly line who built the car. Tell them their car is going to be around and getting customised in 2022. I'd like to think they'd enjoy that idea.

Hello Matt and Steve , making steady progress on the roadster but it's got to get worse before it gets better . You seem to have a dedicated camera person , I take it it's not Mike ( far too busy at the warehouse ) any introductions , they're doing a great job . Keep on keeping on .

Wouldn`t it be easier to use the forklift to move it? That`s what you got it for. Have you ever considered getting you own sandblasting setup, it would be great for de-rusting the insides of bodies & odd shaped parts? A tent made of plastic sheeting to contain the sand to a small area & blast away.
@davidjenkins19582 жыл бұрын
To do your own sandblasting creates a lot of mess, you basically need a separate building or heavy fully enclosed canvas tent, I know his neighbors would not be happy, plus he would need a huge air compressor that would carry the volume of air that is required to do full vehicle sandblasting. Even to get one of those dustless blasting setups creates a lot of mess and requires a large air compressor for the volume of air.
@nboldrini2 жыл бұрын
he already has one.

The forklift was waiting on a starter to be rebuilt. I have a blast cabinet and a small spot blaster. I use them when needed. Not looking to have a complete blasting setup for the reasons mentioned by David. Rather send large items to be blasted professionally

I am really curious about the added sound deadener. Way back when, at least at the drag strip, all the factory sound deadener got scraped out to reduce weight. Cleaning that stuff out could drop over 100 pounds. Looks like Brookville could be your new friend. That body is a lot of work. Can't wait to see it all come together.

Matt, you should be wearing a good dust mask or even a respirator when doing this kind of work. I've been wearing 3M N95 masks with the one way exhale valve and after a day of doing work like this the white mask more often than not turns brown. All of those nasty particles that make the mask look filthy would have ended up in my lungs had I not been wearing the mask. Metal, welding and autobody work can be just as damaging to your lungs over time as being a smoker, maybe worse so protective gear is a must!

@@IronTrapGarage Thank you but I was hoping to follow along on a new project as I have a 31 tudor that my father started working on in the 70s. He finished the chassis with a Corvair front and C2 Vette rear but progress stalled when I was born. I have been working on my own projects but hope to finish it one day. Love seeing the progress on these old hot rods. Thank you for the response.

Coming along nicely!!! Can’t wait to see the future progress on the metal work!!! Matt I’ve been wanting to ask where you get your old tire sizes from I’m needing a set of wide whitewall tires for my 48 Chrysler and wondering where to find them and figured you’d be the person to ask!!???
@IronTrapGarage2 жыл бұрын
Any of the antique car tire suppliers. Googling your tire size should give you results.

I wonder if the spray-on coating was to dampen vibrations in the body skins at high speed? I imagine in their day it was probably never envisioned that the old 'jaunty jalopies' would be playing footsie with speeds of 100mph or maybe even higher and they are not what could be called aerodynamic by any stretch of the imagination.

Any advantage to going this route over simply taking all the body panels apart and attaching them piece by piece to the subframe? Currently I am doing a Model A piece by piece but it all came apart easy. Later models had more panels welded together correct?

Depends on the car. Both ways work just fine

now you need to engineer an external freight elevator on the wall of your shop not set into the hillside to make going from up to down easier. come snow time, it will be a pain going out and around. a detached, complete forklift boom from a junk forklift, mounted to a steel frame that uses an electric hydraulic pump with platform operated solenoid valves to actuate it, and a platform mounted to the fork plate would be the easiest and cheapest way to make it happen.
@IronTrapGarage2 жыл бұрын
If I was spending your money I’d do just that!
