How do you determine what goes into perlite ? Could you explain that ? (I have never probated via perlite )

One question. You mentioned that the cuttings with developed areal roots con go in perlite. Do you only use perlite as growing medium or is it a mix of water and perlite ( more like a water propagation but with perlite in it so that roots have something to grab onto?)
@LifeRomanticized4 жыл бұрын
This was so satisfying to watch! By the way - has anyone ever told you that you look like Orlando Bloom? 🙈
@christmassnow34654 жыл бұрын
I noticed that pothos may grow aerial roots even between the nodes, and not only at the nodes. Do other aroids do that? If I take cuttings, is it OK to keep the cut portion under the node?

Can we get an update on these propagations?
@katherinelandreth21914 жыл бұрын
If you're water propagating my understanding is that you should not wax or let the cutting callous. The open wound at the end of the cutting allows it to draw up water from the glass which gives the cutting more time to grow roots and allows it to keep some of the leaves. If you're rooting in moss, perlite, or another solid medium where the ends aren't drawing any water, it makes sense to wax or let it callous to prevent bacteria or fungal infection from entering the wound while it's in that humid environment.

Yes this is my understanding too. Thanks for commenting! 🌱🌱

How do you know if you should propagate in water, sphagnum moss or perlite?
@JamesArmstrongPlants4 жыл бұрын
I talk about this in my propagations vid but generally if the plant has no roots I go for water, if it has some clean aerial roots I go for perlite and if the aerial roots have already grown into something and have organic matter attached to them i go for sphagnum. Hope that helps!
@TitusFeliciano4 жыл бұрын
James ArmstrongW awesome! And how about soil? You mentioned popping a cutting into soil too. So was just curious. Is it if the aerial roots have reached the soil?
@JamesArmstrongPlants4 жыл бұрын
Yes sometimes if the aerial roots are already really well established in the pot then I just move it directly to the same medium! Not super common but there was one node in particular with the white knight where that was the best option imo!
@sijmenschippers53874 жыл бұрын
Do you not let the fresh cuttings callous over first or close them with wax?
@JamesArmstrongPlants4 жыл бұрын
Nope not usually - never really have any issues with rot so long as there's enough warmth and light 🙌🌱
@sijmenschippers53874 жыл бұрын
@@JamesArmstrongPlants Love this, as I have been doing the same but always read and see people saying its important to callous or seal the cuttings. Love your videos and IG! Thanks James

I tried propagating my verrucosum twice, both with water. But both times it got rotted out after a couple weeks and I didn’t manage to save them. :(
@monashkay_diary93754 жыл бұрын
Up. Planning to cut my verru to trade to other wishlist plant. Now im worried it might not work in water propagation..
@glenthijssen4 жыл бұрын
Same here, I tried water, sphagnum and high draining aroid soil. all rotted away. I can't manage to keep the leaf alive, and eventually the stem. The only succes I had was with air layering in sphagnum. Such a difficult plant to propagate.
@kaneshirou894 жыл бұрын
Glen the prop died but my mother plant verry gave me 5 new shoots since I cut it. Its crazy. Will do some air layering once the new leaves developed. 🤞🏽🤞🏽

don't you let the part where you cut it dry before putting it in water?
@JamesArmstrongPlants4 жыл бұрын
Generally not - I've had very very few propagations rot so long as I keep them in good conditions so I'm confident with this method! 🙌
