This information is good Gregg. Like you I have been installing DCC decoders since the advent of the Tsunami 1000 around 2003 or so. Recently, I installed a few Loksound Decoders for a friend in in his O scale Shays. What a challenge. My own equipment is 100% Tsunami or Econami and I am really happy with performance. I should mention I model in On3 and all my locos are steam hence slightly different parameters for setting up etc.
@FishplateFilms3 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith, Thanks for the comments and you've been using Tsunami's for a bit longer than me ..about 2005 I think? Yes steam settings need a very different strategy for most parts. ON3 is a lovely gauge with beautiful locos! Cheers Gregg.

I find this comment interesting that you no longer use DCC decoders. What are using instead or did you go back to old regular DC?
@gibsonethirty28363 жыл бұрын
@@keithstamper3648 No, I didn't go back to "Regular DC". I still have a Digitrax powered layout, just all my Loco's don't have DCC Decoder's any more. I use a Product called RailPro, which is a Bi directional RF Transmitter operating in the 2.4GHz range from a company called Ring Engineering. The reason I chose RailPro over plain DCC Decoders is 3 fold. 1 - its an easier interface for the operator to use, so easy my 3y old Daughter can use it with her Dad for some Father Daughter time (She already knows Mums IPhone better than Mum), 2 - It does DPUing far easier and quicker than any other system out there that I know of, all at 3 taps on the screen and it doesn't care what make or model of Loco I choose to do it with, no more pushpullme going on. And Lastly, its not Scale specific. It will run my daughters G Scale train just as easy as my HO Scale Loco's. I know a DCC system can do both scales, but not at the same time. RailPro can. My little girl has 2 Loco's, ones of course is a G Scale, the other is an HO, and guess what, like all little girls she wants to play with both of her trains at the same time! :D

Hi Mr Gregg,just going to start my mountain layout,16'×5' double stacked dogbone,what would be the better settings for a prototypical sound,3% grade Im thinking,2-3 headend locos,not sure how many cars to have,thank you for your vids on how to,great stuff ,love ur channel thanks again,cheers
@FishplateFilms3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Louis! A 3% grade is a bit steep , but if you are presses for space then thats what you have ? Keep the max speed down so your notches are closer together and most of the other settings will be fine , but make sure to speed match your locos so they work together on those steep grades! I will be dong a speed matching video soon . CHeers Gregg.

Hi Gregg, I had recently watched the Mid DPU up Helix video again. It got me thinking about at what speed step is BEMF working. I have set my eco's and tsu's BEMF cut-off at CV10 to a value of 50. Taken as a percentage of 1 to 255, it equates to estimate 20%. I wanted to check where my throttle speed step setting was in relation to the BEMF cut-off. Hence i took 20% of 128 speed steps which gave me a speed step of estimate 25. I was just wondering if it would be better to have BEMF active in a DPU train or not considering the sharp end would be slowing down and the mid DPU would be pushing somewhat at the start of a climb.
@FishplateFilms3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rj , It is best to have al the locos set the same , as I've found that helps with DPU's.. The "sweet" spot of a train will change depending on the terrain it is travelling over. Having the BEMF cut off as low as possible, helps with power pushing too hard or pulling too hard. If you are controlling the DPU's separately than that is a different matter, but Ive found that properly speed matched locos are the best bet! Cheers Gregg.
@freightuk2 ай бұрын
Hi, I run my DCC system in 28 step mode primarily as many of my locos were made in the 1960s to 1980s and so are not as controllable at low speeds as current models. Question, setting the BEMF cutout for 28 step mode. If the value can be up to 128 does that map proprtionately to 28 step mode. For example if I set the BEMF cutout to 50 does this scale by 28/128 down to 11 ?
@FishplateFilms2 ай бұрын
Hi , yes the CV amount will scale to the speed step setting. Try adjusting CV 209 to get smoother running as well , and use as little BEMF as you can , as this helps with consisting. CHeers Gregg.

@FishplateFilms3 жыл бұрын
NO JOe , real locos are not speed matched but are set up to run at similar speeds on the same notches. Due to them having normal gears, they are able to be pushed or pulled...unlike ours! Gregg.
