For me it would have to be a sport. Outdoors definitely. Baseball comes to mind as, unlike cricket you can be relatively close to the action, and there are a few diamonds here in the UK now. Great video as always, be lucky stay safe.

I have only built and worked with one rig, I did a Ursa mini pro 12K for virtual production. And it is this weird and complex rig that features both normal equipment and 3D printed parts to hold everything together more nicely. I am still doing improvements and modifications to the rig since new gear arrives every now and then.

Biggest rig is a Varicam with Cn20x50 ( now own the latter instead of hire thanks CVP) with matte box, Arri dovetail, shape baseplate & vct plate, arri shoulder mount and 19mm rods + pair of lens supports. Add in an Atomos Shogun Inferno on Noga, Sachtler Cine 30 and the Canon zoom and focus demands. Brilliant kit, knackering to carry into the hills filming wildlife :-)

This stuff makes me feel kind of ill, it's tech porn, and probably not even necessary half the time, the fact that people post this on the Instagram kind of proves my point. Modern technology means filmmaking should be easier and cheaper than ever but someone, somewhere is always trying to make you spend more money.
@clonkex
@clonkex 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Most of it comes out of people wanting something. Want the focus puller to be able to sit off to the side, out of the way of the camera operator? You need little motors to focus the lens remotely and a screen to see what the camera sees. Want to be able to film for longer without changing batteries? You need a larger battery. Now you also need a way to support the weight, so you need a frame. Want more light with a larger sensor? You need a larger lens. Now you also need a way to support the larger lens, so more frame. You can definitely work with with none of this fancy stuff, but on larger productions it becomes pretty important. For instance, imagine having the DP, director and focus puller all crowded around the monitor on the camera. It just wouldn't work.
@LeeHarris
@LeeHarris 2 жыл бұрын
@@clonkex I did say 'half the time.' The issue I have is that on Instagram for example the number of people posting pics of their builds is nothing more than some kind of macho gear porn and I suspect very often is done just for the sake of it, to look professional, to look cool. Also a director can watch the action without a monitor, surely the point of a great cinematographer /camera operator is that you trust them to get it right. This worked perfectly well in the past when there was an issue of the huge cost of film.
@clonkex
@clonkex 2 жыл бұрын
@@LeeHarris Ah I missed that part, sorry. I guess I have no real experience with what you're talking about (instagram photos of fancy rigs). And sure, you can definitely do without. For smaller productions I completely agree that the giant rigs are unnecessary. But for big productions and big budgets, they're going to want all the tools and gadgets they can get their hands on to ensure everything goes as well as possible.

@Deveron4
@Deveron4 2 жыл бұрын
The point isn't that there is literally no delay, because as you say that's impossible. Rather, it's that the latency in the teradek and vaxis "zero-delay" systems is the same as a direct SDI or HDMI connection.
