They could've let him hold the IC Title for about 3-4 months & then have Miz beat for the title at MITB. Then they do a rematch at Battleground or SummerSlam where Miz retains & then he brings the IC Title over to Smackdown.

I was there live for that. Ryder was always my boy. Being from Long Island there was that “cheer for the home town guy” vibe. I had no inclination he was going to win but I ERUPTED when he grabbed the belt and they played “OOOOH RADIOOO” Really cool moment that he totally deserved.

I remember that night very clearly! It was my birthday.. and one of my friends got me a signed Zack Ryder Poster.. and that night we both freaked out going nuts that Zack won the title.. it was such a cool awesome moment. Matt Cardona is the man.

To me, that moment was as great as when Dolph Ziggler cashed-in on Alberto. I've cheered so loud in my room and it actually got me excited to see WWE on a weekly basis. I was so drained when Matt lost the next day that I didn't watch WWE regularly for a good while.

Great interview Chris! Matt Cardona is the man! What a journey, I remember his Z! True Long Island Story episodes on his KZbin channel back in 2011, they were so entertaining, he got over organically with the fans, his Intercontinental championship win at WM 32 and getting to share that moment with his dad was so iconic. Even after getting released from WWE, he continues to hustle in the independent scene, always solid in the ring, no matter where he competes, his belief and drive to succeed is inspirational. 👏👏👏 The fact that all he wanted was to just have his music play at WM, and then ended up winning the Intercontinental championship is beautiful ❤

I remember watching this on live tv. I thought Ryder was just one of those guys just to fill the multiman ladder match roster because there was no build to him winning. It was a pleasant surprise that he won. Good WM moment

Yeah it sucks he had his big WM moment only to lose it the next night but, he did get more than he hoped for. Everything from sharing the moment with the crowd as well as his father was special. He even got to share it with Scott Hall who he idolized and met at a show when he was a kid when Scott was IC champion. Now Matt got to do it again with him being IC champ. If you don’t mark out for something like that you’re not a wrestling fan.

I've joked (not joking) that the actual reason he won was Snickers. You have to remember the show well enough to know why. Shortly afterwards there was a a Snickers commerical with Rick Flair and Matt and Flair is going "Wooooooooo" and Matt with is title belt is saying "Woo Woo Woo", and not "getting it right". Eventually Rick says to eat a Snickers and he turns into Charlotte with her title belt and she "stops being confused". For the commercial to work, they needed Matt holding a belt, and the IC title was perfect. So homie should be all about those Snickers because I'm pretty sure they bought him an IC title.

Come on dude, the reason he was in that commercial is because Ric Flair says Wooooo and Zack Ryder says Woo Woo Woo, it's pretty self-explanatory 😅 He doesn't even hold the belt in it, besides the commercial is for Wrestlemania but even if it was released after, the next day he no longer was the IC champion, I think you overthought it a bit too much 😅
