I don't mind the Japanese culture stuff since it could be applied in storyline that he's adapting the culture down in the East as a gaijin and applying it in WWE. Totally ignoring his Albert roots after repackaging as a whole "new guy" in the day and age of the internet was just a career suicide right from the get go. Dude went from beating John Cena and then current WWE Champion to turning into giant-sized Disco Inferno while wearing a dress in a span of 3 months, can't help but feel bad for the guy.

Letting talent come in and use their real names or names they were using elsewhere is just one of those things that drives home the fact that Vince has nothing to do with WWE anymore. Vince would have never let him come back as Shawn Spears. Just like letting Jade keep her name as well. I think that will be another positive that AEW talent with expiring contracts, or talent from other promotions, will keep in mind when it comes to where they want to sign next.
