CW Learners' Edition with mostly unedited QSOs and including captions. Great for listening/decoding practices. Operating speed is about 22 wpm.
At 4:48 CW operating begins if you'd like to skip ahead. Let me know how you like this.

Good Video Adam. Thank you. Have some friends interested in HAM and using this video as a good example of some of the things one might do with a small radio/antenna that you can put in a backpack.

Hey Adam - love the CW decode & long-form video. Passing along feedback from KO6BTM who excited to have another study option! Well done. I'm interested in your workflow for putting the translation together - that can be a very long, tedious process in my experience!

Also if there is interest in a slower speed activation, I could certainly do that too

@@K6ARK I’d be up for that. Say a 10-15 words per minute. I’m going to look into the Long Island CW club this summer to start learning code. Thanks for what you do.

What pole are you using? I'm sure you've covered many times on other videos. This is the first video I've watched after realizing i really need a good back packable pole.

Do you not add any kind of choke to your antennas since you have the matching unit connected directly to the radio?

No, I don't. And if I did, I might need to add a counterpoise to the system so it has at least some form of a ground plane with low impedance. With a properly tuned antenna, I have not experienced any issues with the end fed half wave antennas. I have, on some occasions, experience some RF getting into the radio when using a non- resonant random wire antenna. For those, there might be some benefit to adding a bit of coax and a choke to try to keep some of that reflected RF out of the rig.

After you hear a call sign in reply to your CQ, you answer with the first name of the caller. How do you know their name? I see you are using your cell phone while making QSOs? What information are you getting from your phone? How is your what you do changed if there is no call service? Do you use an emergency SOS device while doing SOTA? Thanks, KE6SRN, Carol

Carol, I know many of the chasers by call sign because I have contacted them so many times, and/or know them from the SOTA Slack group or meeting in person. The logging app I use (OutD log) saves the person's name in a database if I enter it once. It then also auto-fills for future contacts after that. Cell service doesn't matter, and I often turn the phone to airplane mode to avoid interference. I often carry a Garmin InReach Mini for emergencies while out hiking and climbing.

@@K6ARKThanks!!! I can't wait until I've done this so many times that I know chasers by call sign. And I will be purchasing a Garmin InReach Messenger next sale.
