got this as a gift, very happy with it for my 1st drone, haven't had any problems and very hardy, easy to control and looks good in the air, haven't managed to figure out the speed settings so far but only had about 8 flights, my 6 Year old nephew is flying it well also so it must have a little bit of forgiveness in the controls all in all a very good toy quality drone

This is my first quad I have ever used and first rc flight. I seemed to have no problems with mine. since then I have bought so many rc helicopter's and mini drones. I'm hooked and can't stop I have so much fun with them. I've done some mods to it also reducing weight and a lager battery and now I get about 12 min without camera and landing gear. might mod the camera to run on its own battery and reduce the camera housing into the quads body.

Hi Chris, I have just ordered one of these from Wish for AU$76,it would be cheaper for the USA. I just could not let it pass, I saw a video on the jello issue with the camera, he removed the whole camera case to gain access to the lens and ribbon, then just hot glued the lens to the front of the quad and left the case off, no jello! thanks for the video,Cheers from Ron from Oz

Great review. I like that you spend some time editing. It is certainly not the norm and I appreciate that. Seems like you might have the "friday afternoon" at the factory version of this one.. staying up in the air, out of focus camera, trouble binding.. It looks like such a great beginner fpv for me that I might overlook those problems and hope that they have worked out some of the bugs in the couple of months since you did your review. Thanks again.

+vaping pauly thank you! I try to fly the quads around for a few weeks before I do a review so I can give an honest opinion of what I think and my experience with whichever quad I'm reviewing. I've heard a lot of people have had issues in general with quads with altitude hold not wanting to come down in the toy grade class. Still, I think this one is a great starter fpv quad.

oh yeah I noticed the quad has to be sitting on a flat surface when you switch it on then the controller then bind it,otherwise it would just blink fast if I held it in my hand,must need to calibrate first or something.

+Austine Suva hey! Thanks for the feedback and thanks for checking out my channel! Glad you are enjoying it. Usually when I review a quadcopter I do an unboxing video before I do a full review. You can find the one on the JXD 509G here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGGrfq2aebxka6s I try to break it up and keep the videos shorter so everyone doesn't have to watch for an eternity. I try to take the quad out and fly it around for a little while so I can give you guys an honest opinion of it. Thanks again for the kind words! Happy flying!

Love you're vids chris iv just bought this for £57 from Bang Good.Com no problems with altitude hold or binding it...The 720p worked great but the jello was pants so what i did was buy some Self-adhesive Anti-Vibration Medium Density PE Foam Pads mounted the cam on the pads first then mounted them both to the quad and the jello as stopped now getting A grade vids.This is one of the best quads on the market for the money.

Hello again. At 1:23 - 1:37 the quad's altitude hold and or "hovering" was excellent. How did you get it to do that? Whats the pre-flight and or while "hovering" adjustments needed for steady, smooth flying (weather pending of course) of the quad. Please help. Getting frustrated. LOL
@ChrisWalshTech
@ChrisWalshTech 8 жыл бұрын
Basically you just have to make sure the quad is trimmed out. If you notice it drifting a certain direction you have to give it trim in the opposite direction. Refer to the manual to see which trim button does what. If you have anymore questions let me know.

Chris, have you had any luck figuring out how to lowering or land the JD509? I just received one and only had 2 flights with it, but first flight was either very slow to come down or after a while of holding stick down would drop. I just few it again and it would only come down very very slowly. Never went higher than 5 or 6 feet with it to get a feel for it. First flight it was about 10 degrees outside and battery didn't last long. last flight it was about 25 out. Thanks

+Chris Walsh Thanks for the reply. Flew again inside this time and everything was great for the first 4 mins. then got a little weird, may start slowly climbing without input then slowly lower or drop all together. Suppose to warm up the next few days so I'll try again outside. Funny I ordered a couple of quads almost a month ago and I receive 1 quad and extra batteries for the quad I haven't got yet. No extra batteries for this one.

+Chris Walsh You're welcome. The reason I came here was that I just got an ad from Banggood.com for this quad at A$125. That's a pretty good deal, isn't it? I'm seriously thinking of getting one. (I have a W666 but I find it a bit heavy and the yaw is very slow. The cam and viewer are pretty good though)
@ChrisWalshTech
@ChrisWalshTech 9 жыл бұрын
GearBest actually has it for $89 and some change right now. This one is very light and flies nice. I don't have any personal experience with the W666 but I think it is a bit larger than this one. I hear the fpv is very good though.

+Chris Walsh I'm talking in Australian $ (0.70 US $) That works out at about US $87. Looks good! I'm ordering one tonight! Yes, the W666 is larger and the fpv is good, especially since I upgraded to a better antenna: about 10 bucks a set on ebay and it hugely extends the fpv range while (I think) reducing lag. Thanks Chris. Oh! If my wife blows a fuse, I'll say it was your fault.

You mentioned the Sky Viper battery, would you prefer the STR 950 Sky Viper's flying ability over this JXD 509G?! You really never discussed if it was agile or just a good steady FPV flying. I own 3Sky -Vipers, but looking to move up a lil in performance. I was looking at JJRC's first hit, X1, with the brushless motors for under a 130.00!!! I was wondering your opinion, enjoy your reviews, thanks, keep flying,😎

Wonderful video! Thank you very much for your review! P.s: I bought this quad from gearbest,and while on gearbest it says it's flight time is about 10 min,on the instruction manual it says about 6 min...kinda strange. mine can fly about 5 min and for some reason the light alwayes flash as if battery is running low. Does yours get that too?

I have had a XD 509G for some time and it is crap. I had the one withe the FPV and screen on the controller. The quad itself is to heavy so the battery does not last very long 4- 5 minutes. But the firmware starts the low battery warning at about 2 minutes (lights flash) and does not allow videoing from that point on. So you can only get about 2 minutes of video. Also from when the low battery starts the JD 509 starts to try to land and even full up throttle will not allow it to climb. So effectively you only get about 2 minutes of flight time. Other issues I have had with it are: Sometimes even with a full battery and no low batter warning it will drop very quickly even with full up throttle and so crash to the ground Sometimes it will fly away no matter what my control inputs are. Because it is to heavy it has trouble going against even the slighest breeze The altitude hold does not work very well and I am constantly trying to get it to go up When I do get some height, It takes a very long time to get it to come back down. That combined with the problem of dropping for no reason means it has crashed multiple times and so broken the landing gear. It appears to want to stabilize itself so does not fly well to control inputs so has very jerky movements especially when yauring . The video quality is very bad. Other the the jello, that shows even on these demo videos it also had blockey bits across the screen like to old VCR's used to have All the problems would appear to be firmware related but because it is not possible to fly without the altitude hold or changes the firmware it makes it virtually useless. I would not recommend it to anyone
@ChrisWalshTech
@ChrisWalshTech 8 жыл бұрын
With mine I had more problems with it not wanting to come down because of the altitude hold. The video does have a ton of jello in it. Definitely has a short flight time, but I used to like to fly this one around a bit. I've since moved on, but I can see your frustration with it.

Seems like all quads that don't have gps hold, but have this barometer hold has the same issue. Hubsan X4 Cam plus also is a slow quad to get down thanks to alitude hold, and There is some other tube-clips out there that shows the same thing. Maybe the manufacturers should get a feature that shuts the altitude hold down when needed. :-)

Hi Chris, i flew Helicopters almost a decade ago. And before i am entering the quads´n drones i bought the JD509 (great deal 80 bugs @ banggood) just to see if these things are realy that easy to fly... and yes they are. Out of the box, almost idiotsafe. Only one neg. point: Flighttime. My one is empty after less than 2 minutes. What´s your flighttime experience, will it increase with chargecycles? How do you charge? With this tiny little USB charger?! I guess not. Do you use other batteries, and if so what kind of batteries? And by the way, THX for the Vid. great help by decisionmaking what to buy.

+Lon Rogers just press the button on the upper left that says speed. It starts out on one, when you push it you should here 2 beeps meaning it's in the second rate. Press it for a third time and you should hear 3 beeps meaning you're in the highest rate. Press it again and you'll hear 1 beep and you're back in the first rate. Third rate is the fastest and first is the slowest.

From what I read about various altitude hold they ar all difficult to come down from high up. The V666 N has the same problem. Was one of the first with this feature. +John Luciano thanks for subscribing, John! I looked into the range of the WiFi version before buying the 5.8ghz version...it's advertised to get up to 50 meters of range. It's been my experience that WiFi fpv is kind of hit and miss so I went with the 5.8ghz. I can tell you the range on this one is excellent. I've been thinking of checking out some of the Parrot mini drones....I think they are more of a tech toy than an RC quad though.

really cool review, all base's were covered with understandable commentary, The over all design of this qaud reminds me of the jjrc x1. i LIKE IT but the little voice in my head tell's me to pass on this, Ive been flying, crashing, and mostly loosing quad's for over a year now, I have enough experience to know that my flying skill's are atrocious, and I am still addicted to altitude. witch put's jXD's chance's of survival (under my comand ) at great risk. I would predect that she brake's away from my controller during the first or second flights.. And the binding ( secret handshake) issue? was fair warning to me that I probably wont be able to bind this bird if i did purchase it. I hate quad's with stupied (combination lock) binding procedure's. As I type this, I am looking at the Wltoys q212 that sitting hear in my living room, never flown, never heard the motors spin, because I never could get the thing to bind to the transmitter., (note to self) Any and all quads found to have the slightest conection problems in it's review's? from now on serve's as the MAJOR RED LIGHT telling me to move on to somethig else..

Because the controller is for the quad which operates on 2.4 ghz. The FPV system is just for the camera and the screen. It uses 5.8 ghz.

I have one. Flys freat. Has jello on the video. Tried to balance the props but just made it worse. My only real complaint is it has a bad habit of just falling out of the sky for no reason. Motors just quit. Anyone else having the same problem with one?

I've had that happen once or twice. I think the jello is more of a vibration issue than a prop issue. I've seen this on a few other quads and balancing the props didn't seem to help much.

I just got a cheap drone and it had altitude hold also. Had it one day and lost it. Flew around to get hang of controls on low speed then decided to go straight up. Well i noticed it drifting away and tried to bring it back but i guess the wind was to strong 2 mph 😂 but needless to say it wouldnt come down and i asume it went back to china. I couldn't find it after going over some trees. Rip drone. .
