Remembering the great Harold Mabern on the day of his birthday in 2024. I last saw him at the Half Note jazz club in Athens, Greece, in 2016. During the show, he dazzled the audience with his musicianship, he played everything from jazz standards, low-down Delta Blues (where he also sang with a great blues voice), to Earth, Wind & Fire's Fantasy, a great arrangement of his (to be found on one of his personal albums). After the show, I saw him sitting at the bar and went to shake hands with this great musician and tell him I was a lifelong fan. His humility and kindness startled me. We ended up scat singing Wes Montgomery lines from his tour in Europe with Wes back in the 60s when I told him I know all these performances by heart, I kid you not. Such a great musician and human being, may he rest in peace. Reply

Those cretins have no soul or appreciation for beauty or talent. They are from the Lawrence Welk school of music. Or country western is their forte.
