Vocal Coach Analysis - BTS Jimin Vocal Warm Up 'Serendipity'

Jimin is a good singer and he has a very beautiful voice. From watching a lot of his performances, I think one thing he can work on is stability and consistency. Jimin has had a lot of great vocal performances, especially with Serendipity, but there are some where he is straining and struggling to reach his notes. I hope his live performances get more stable and improve over time because it hurts me to see him straining his voice, especially for Fake Love (that’s the song where I see him straining the most)

I wouldn't describe it as "feminine" cause that makes me think of a girly way of speaking and I don't think he has that... but he tends to speak in a low, soft and gentle tone and his voice has a kind of light husky quality to it...especially when he's being a bit flirty or cutesy. Of course, whenever he shouts or goes back to his native busan satoori his voice sounds much deeper, rougher and definitely masculine... He's a man of duality, Jimin...

I urge you to see - BTS JIMIN "SERENDIPITY" LIVE LOVE YOURSELF CONCERT - In Seoul - Fancam by JIMIN BCD - It's so good that it's been seen over 2.5 million times! Be sure it's the JIMIN BCD Fancam! What a shame that you didn't get to hear his full voice plus while he is actually dancing as well! This was a warm up for an entirely different song! For gosh shakes he isn't even going to be singing this song! Plus it's at the end of an 18 hour day that they were filming their comeback show for tv since early morning and this was late at night! They were all totally exhausted at this point, but still continued with their next song filming which was "Tomorrow"! I urge you to see - BTS JIMIN "Serendipity" Live Love Yourself Concert in Seoul - fancam by JIMIN BCD- If you get past the first seconds when everything is adjusted right it's fine! azalea9 - I've actually listened to every single one throughout the tour and i believe this is when he is at his best at the beginning of the tour! In Paris as well as in Berlin pain me a bit because it's right after his muscles froze up and he wasn't even able to do the back bend and flip which he insisted on doing again at this point but you could see it was not quite the same nor was his voice although better. This was his very last performance of the tour so of course he put great effort into the performance in spite of everything! That's why I love the first performances in Seoul the best! I actually even prefer day 1 in Seoul even more so but there is no good Fancam from that night! Honestly since they are all Fancams as opposed to DVD's with the sound quality enhanced none of them will sound as good but personally I do prefer the Seoul one. Which one exactly were you regarding to because honestly I didn't see a better one with the performance quality better than JIMIN performing in Seoul pain free and healthy! Please let me know.

I really would love an analysis of The Truth Untold live on the current tour. Jimin continuously struggles with the song, sometimes more, sometimes less. What is needed to improve? We know Jimin works hard. Knowing what to work on helps.

Honestly, I think they all struggled with this song at the start of the tour but have been improving with each performance. Especially Jungkook's harmonizing at the end has gotten better, and Jimin's overall performance/confidence has gotten better (to the point where he's been experimenting a bit more at the end). If you do watch it, maybe try the Citi Field performance? kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHizdaqbetKSnZo They were all in fairly good condition at this point in the tour (no injuries/illness/sore throats.....that we know of.....) Also, please comment on Jimin's opening part. I feel like that part is challenging to sing (notes/pitch seem to vary a lot??? idk), but I would really like a vocal coach's opinion.

One problem in this song is placed in the moving down pentatonic passage. Jimin has to sing too low in this part of the song. For other boys this passage is not as hard due the natural, a bit lower range of their voices. For Jimin it's a real problem. He found a way now how to do it. I suppose, his vocie coach helped him to understand that in his case (Jimin is tenor-altino) lower notes better to take lighter and, at the same time, to give more power to a higher notes.

I knew that his part was challenging more based on how it's played on the piano but, as I'm not a vocal coach and don't have much knowledge about vocal technique, I didn't know the exact reason. I compare his part and the notes he has to hit as I play it, and he's having to "move around" more than the others based on his natural range. I think people don't realize how often Jimin is put into difficult to sing passages. They automatically call him weak or unstable when, in fact, he's doing some pretty difficult things--especially for what his natural voice is designed for. His improvement on this song is quite amazing. I encourage everyone to go watch his performance just the past day at Osaka on Day 3. He's really starting to fall more and more into the song and is finding his way through it technically. And also, something I read about tenor-altino's that I think is quite applicable (but correct me if I'm wrong as I'm no vocal expert): "what the altino may lack in size and volume, it is noted for its purity of sound, clarity and cut across and through an orchestra." I think Jimin has a truly unique voice, and it can be difficult to appreciate it when much of current pop emphasizes power and volume.

I think it was a great call if you couldn’t hear the audio in the live performance. You’re very sweet for trying to comply to our requests. Love this, really interesting. I find it really telling that he was so lacking in confidence with his singing, and yet is so natural about it. From what I've listened to of his live performances, Serendipity shows his strengths and his ethereal natural skill off beautifully - but then you get something like their live versions of Danger, and he's got so much power in there too - sounds like Michael Jackson!

I really want to know if this technique is healthy in the long run. I wish youtube deletes their ellen performance of Fake Love *cringe* i can't defend him in that performance. you don't have to make a video on it. Unfortunately, like most kpop singers, the agency doesn't take much care of the technique of their artists and if it can damage their voice in the future because of the short duration of an idol's career they care more than their voice stands out. There are agencies that do take care of more of their vocalists (they do more playback while they dance) but in the case of bighit they take more care of the performance (bts almost always sing live) and they put more effort into the dance too. Sorry for my bad english.

@@jennyferlucas7039 that's true. unfortunately a lot of armys sees this as a hate comment when all we really want is a healthy technique that can still create their unique vocal tones but is sustainable for the future. I always feel sad for jimin whenever he beats himself up after a performance. They all need the right vocal coach. Their previous ones (or if they still have them) is obviously not doing things right if they keep straining. Also add to that how some of their songs are too high/out of their range.

iheart cactus I am also saddened that for not giving more attention to their vocalists, the guys have to suffer from hater criticism saying they can not sing only because of some bad presentations they have had, but a real fan should be more tolerant of constructive criticism since they are to help them improve.

@@kikiam7850 For them to be trained in a healthy singing technique and actually achieve it,they'd need months of training in that and a lot of frequent technical singing practice with appropriate breaks from any other vocal activity so as not to strain their voice.Such a thing is very difficult during this part of their career and with their schedule.

First, enjoyed learning from you and hearing about how to change the level of cords in voice. 1 question not KPop. Do you think Micheal Jackson used the method in his normal voice to make it sound more gentle? A female friend has too much male hormones and so her voice is lower normally but when she outside the house we noticed she spoke with a higher pitch sounding shy. I wondered if you think the public voice we heard is his real voice or his singing voice? Thanks so much for reacting and teaching us to appreciate singing even more😊
