First time I watched I didn't think the truck was that far gone. But yeah. I rewatched that part and he was well past. About the longest distance I have seen a heavily loaded truck make it in a turn in too high a gear it was a Mack with a 38foot feed tanker (80k GVWR). He made a 90 degree turn onto an on ramp in 7th gear - going too fast, of course. He ended up on 9 wheels for 78 feet before he panicked and hit brakes. That made the shoulder of the trailer instantly dig forward and down. Instant roll over. Very little damage to the trailer though. For the record, the driver had just been released from training - against the recommendations of his trainer. (It sucks to be a trainer and have your advice ignored. That happened to me with MY first student.)

As soon as the forward lift fan ate whatever box that was, the rest of the engine is still going to provide thrust from the hot section and the vectored nozzle pointing toward the ground. The auto-eject system gives, if memory serves, three audible voice warnings with 0.3 second delay between each warning so you have time to get into good seat posture, then you're out of the plane. But by this point, the engine that's still providing downward thrust (there's no FOD ingestion to shell out the motor, yet, but the lift fan is clearly done) through the aft nozzle is going to flip the plane ass-over-nose, ejecting the pilot towards the truck (which he might actually clear it, my understanding is the seat is pretty good at correcting for airplane attitude) but definitely send the plane crashing into Bruce Willis and exploding instantly. Not that it matters, since they put guns under the intakes where some pretty important magic boxes go, so you're guaranteed to ground abort as soon as you start the integrated power package (the F-35's version of an APU).

@@FirstDagger i'm sure it did, because it had lift engines, like the 38, and it might not have had to carry over for them to come up with this idea (although it probably was carried over). If my memory doesn't deceive me, i think i read somewhere years ago that the f35 had some issues with the driveshaft for the fan or something, so it might be that's the reason they incorporated such a system, despite the f35b using a single engine for all of its vtol lift. Anyway, doesn't seem like a bad thing to have..

On the DVD commentary the director and Bruce Willis mention that the truck scene at 8:40 was 100% real. They were both surprised that that it went over so far and landed back on its wheels. They then added the shots of Bruce hanging on to the steering wheel. They filmed the scene again but that time the truck flipped over. The scene really does look like it was written for a helicopter in how the whole thing plays out, and then someone on the production team went: 'Wait, helicopters have been in every action movie since action movies were invented. How about something else... What if it was an _F-35?'_ I'm thinking this was written for something like an armed Little Bird. That helicopter has the armament that would do what this scene does, and would be small and nimble enough to work in this scene (albeit at great risk). Swap out the inaccurate AIM-9[OMNI] missiles that can't hit a truck at 300 feet (Never mind using an AtA missile on a ground vehicle) with some dumbfire rocket pods, and consider the machine guns are M-134s firing 7.62 or a GAU-17 with 12 milimeter. Then suddenly this sequence makes sense. This ISN'T a military jet just out for a Sunday flight fully armed. It's a surplus Little Bird (somehow) with lower end weapons piloted by an overly aggressive moron who takes his chopper into the weeds under these freeway stacks, has debris hit his tail rotor, and spins out of control until he crashes. I mean seriously, F-35 or not, this scene is stupid. John McClain does literally nothing but barely dodge something like four times, and the attacking aircraft defeats ITSELF. You can't even give John credit for doing anything clever to trick the F-35 into trapping itself. This isn't F-35 vs 18 Wheeler. This is F-35 vs Itself with McClain dynamically ducking for cover for four minutes straight.

The Yak-38 VTOL had an auto eject function but its sensors were often faulty and caused ejections even in stable hovers. Information gathered from the Yak-38 and 141 program would be used by Lockheed Martin after the collapse of the USSR to create the F35.

@theejectionsite10383 жыл бұрын
FYI this jet is equipped with a Phantom's H-7 ejection seat as seen by the handles (Manual Override is clearly visible in the stick scenes) and the headrest shape except they replaced the face curtain handles with a really dumb looking board to act as a headrest. No parachute installed too. Regarding canopy fracture systems, they do cause superficial cuts on activation which is why you should always fly with a visor down, not a problem on the F-35 due to the helmet mounted sight displays. The Tornado used the same system and they went to a dual visor system to give the crew the option of having the clear visor down all the time. It is a trade-off for the time saved in the ejection. A classic historical ejection is Brian Udell's supersonic ejection from an F-15E in a near vertical dive at Mach 1.15 with initiation being at about 6000ft as I recall. With the 0.4 second delay for the canopy, rear seat firing followed by another about 0.4 second delay for sequencing until the front seat fired Udell had less than 1.2 seconds before he would have hit the water in the seat before separation would have occurred. The USAF researched adding canopy breakers to the seats and that removed the need for the initial delay to allow for more rapid egress. Going thru the canopy of a F-15 and other aircraft without a canopy fracture system is possibly more hazardous due to the more random shearing of the material. Look for photos of Keith Gallagher's KA-6 'partial ejection' (a complete misnomer really.) His canopy fractured leaving serrated plexiglass aimed at his midsection due to his position in the jammed seat. In other cases that area of the canopy will be struck by the aircrew's legs which will break it, but the impact can cause injury too. They tried adding a canopy fracture to the F-16 but the transparency is up to an inch or so thick and the detonating cord would not reliably shear it enough to clear the pilot unless it was thick enough to cause injury or block visibility. The F-22 canopy is too strong as well. www.ejectionsite.com/pirep.htm - both Udell (Back in the Saddle) and Gallegher's reports are in there.

Yes, that is true! "And also during the 90s the Soviet Union was finishing its own economic and political disaster, and the resulting that swept across the Russian military created a mountain of problems for Yakovlev to overcome. Luckily for Yakovlev, America’s favorite plucky multi-billion dollar defense contractor raced in to save the day. As the Iron Curtain receded across Europe, defense giant Lockheed Martin started to pour money into Yak-141 program in order to glean some sweet, sweet former Soviet engineering secrets. The two companies allegedly signed an agreement in 1991 (but not revealed until 1995) that outlined funding for additional Yak-141 prototypes, including a plan to fly the remaining operational prototype the Farnborough Airshow in September 1992. While Lockheed most likely had zero intention of helping produce the Yak-141 for export; it would make more sense that the entire contract was a cover for procuring testing data on the Yak-141 program, including most importantly any VTOL data obtained through years of testing and development."

One more for you! The F-35 can't fire AIM-9 (any version) missiles from the internal bays, either - AIM-9 ignites its rocket motor while still on the rail, as opposed to the AIM-120 which ignites after being dropped. Even if we suspend disbelief and allow for the pilot to fire a 9X in LOAL mode using his fancy helmet mounted cueing, having the missile ignite on rail in the internal bay would be quite undesirable. It's why the F-22 has those sidearm rails canted outward.

And the notion that any competent pilot would choose to go nose-to-nose with a truck down at ground level, underneath structures (setting aircraft capabilities aside) was beyond laughable. Chuckled at your comment about the need to develop the STOVL capable version so we Brits could have it... That's the Navy and their little tubby-toy carrier, it's kind of cute. :P Edit to add: am I right in recalling some Russian carrier-capable aircraft having an auto-eject mechanism that punches the pilot out if it detects below a certain altitude with no weight on wheels? I think the idea was on ski-jump carriers, it was a safety mechanism in case the aircraft failed to lift, but caused problems when pilots forgot to disable it before landing! Not sure if that's reality or something I got from a novel! 😂

No, and Mover has already repeatedly denied making any effort to even take on FoTI and has said that is one of the more properly presented and realistically written portrayals of Vietnam Era Naval Aviation. that on top of, he does not know anyone who is rated on the A-6

Yak 38 and su 33 also have a automatic mode for the ejection seat the yak if the lift jets fail and the su 33 on take off if it sinks below a certain height after leaving the ski ramp on russian cvs, also yes this has happened where a pilot has forgot to turn off the auto mode and tried to land

It's called casual mode, bro you get124 missiles, cannon restocks every minute and it has ground impact forgiveness. You can pull 16 +gs and accelerate faster then a rocket

I looked at some newer "Mover Ruins Movies" to see if you actually did change the name. I think you made the right choice keeping with "Ruins" as that, to me, is part of the fun of watching these.

It's like Hollywood continually forgets that helicopters exist, and that they can also carry weapons.

To slow and wouldn’t you rather watch a jet than a heli and don’t just say no to be funny

@@thechamp8162 ; "Too slow" makes fast mover hover and make target out of themselves, silly Hollywood. Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Rambo and Fire Birds disagree on helis being boring.

i would much prefer an apache rip a truck apart with its 30mm or hellfires than an F-35B do everything totally wrong

When the next-gen fighters finally arrived at the military base in Anchorage Alaska I met a military jet mechanic at a gas station one morning . I asked him what the new jets were like and he gave me a DIRTY look and said they were junk . This is when the jets had some serious problems with the air circulation system failing causing lethal crashes .

Ahaha - I love this series! Always interesting hearing your comparisons to how Hollywood do things. PS - just a bit of advice, if its your active window, you can pause and unpause youtube with the space bar. Might be easier for you, and means less mouse cursors on the screen capture. Left and right on the arrow keys skips back and forth, and shift and < or > change the playback speed - useful for slow motion!
