It should not void the warranty, in fact I believe if there is an issue they have to prove the modification you make is the root cause of it. Mazda's ECU automatically tunes dynamically, so they shouldn't cause any problems. Never had any issues with the intake and exhaust, but for the intake make sure you get the right cleaner for the filter.

Any guess on the hp and tq changes? Is torque earlier on because of the less restriction on the turbo (less lag because more flow).
@kc5102 жыл бұрын
Probably the opposite. These usually get you more(if any) top end when the engine is really breathing hard.
@MomoTheBuilder2 жыл бұрын
I would guess top end is better, if anything hp and torque maybe +3 to each, an axle-back doesn't cause too big of a difference, but it should improve breathing ability.

@@kc510 on my 88 Supra Turbo I put a 3 inch turbo back single outlet exhaust with a high flow cat and it gained 4 lbs of boost and massive gains in torque and hp all the way acrossed the rpm band. Thing went from a heavy pig to a 3rd gear getting sideways monster. Probably flywheel 320 hp and 340 lbs tq because I was as fast as the newer lighter 2 seater twin turbo 94+ model. It shifts later (not accelerates later) so you get higher RPM's?
@MomoTheBuilder2 жыл бұрын
You will not get higher RPMs overall, the engine is limited to what it can do from factory. However, if you go into sport mode it will shift later, so you'll get worse mileage but better acceleration as more torque is available at higher RPMs.
@JupiterxBlues Жыл бұрын
@@MomoTheBuilder the engine actually has less torque available after about 3k RPMs. You do get more HP though as the power continues to build up at the end of the RPM range. So the car doesnt feel as punchy at the upper RPM range but it IS accelerating faster. There is at least one aftermarket company working on getting the hp and torque curve above 3k rpm to go up. I haven't seen any good results yet but in theory, from what has been discovered about the engine, the torque dips(more like gradually falls) after 3k because the ECU is limiting it likely for emissions reasons. If that is so, then a piggyback ecu might be able to make this car claw and growl at the upper RPM range too. Quick theory: many modern car/engine combination in the last 10 years can handle up to 100hp(at the wheels) per liter fairly reliably in N/A form. Even many cars not built for performance can reach those numbers with bolt ons, timing changes, tunes, usually things that the average person can do at home fairly easily(putting cost aside though). With a turbo engine tuned for reliability AND low end torque(what usually breaks weaker engines), it should handle greater numbers easily, specially at higher RPMs where torque puts less stress on an engine. A conservative number guess would be maybe 120hp(at the wheels) per liter. That means that in theory, this engine "could" reliably push out 300whp at least(or 345hp at the engine if we go by the 15% drivetrain loss number). That's a huge power jump, and enough power to be on the scary side for an SUV. However, im pretty sure we can go much higher than 300whp, just that reliability will start to be in question and we wont know how long the engine will last so someone will have to be the guinea pig for the rest of us. Lol
@pikachupowers Жыл бұрын
@@JupiterxBlues the torque does NOT dip after 2000rpm. You have most of your torque available at 2000rpm with the 2.5L . About 80%. It peaks at around 3000. The "dip" you're talking about happens somewhere between 3-4000rpm while the intake manifold opens the second stage and cam profiles swap over to a more aggressive state. But torque should hold more or less steady to redline, and HP will build until about 5700rpm peak.
@pikachupowers Жыл бұрын
@@JupiterxBlues using 91 octane in my Mazda 6, I can definitely say that torque has not peaked at 2000rpm, and it doesn't dip when winding out towards the redline. I don't have a sport mode in my 2015 model so I do not know how that feature would affect the shift mapping, but I can tell you that pressing the kickdown switch on your throttle will command the throttle body to open up further and rev higher. Depending on various conditions, it may or may not reach the 6200rpm redline. (You'll notice the hard redline is actually at 6500rpm, and I have seen the engine get close to there once without forcing it to in manual mode.) If you were to floor it without clicking the kickdown, you'll get a less aggressive shift, and the ECU won't give you it's most urgent acceleration. Avoid using kickdown unless it's an emergency.
@pikachupowers Жыл бұрын
@@MomoTheBuilder I do use kickdown on occasion, because It seems to me that the engine runs and performs better the next time I use It. (Next start up.) Almost as if the ecu has been remapped. I will say, that the performance, efficiency and smoothness of this engine has improved drastically since switching to ethanol free 91 octane, up from 87 ethanol blended.

I honestly never knew it had one! But after checking yes, would make it WAYYYY easier to reach the dip stick. I cannot attest with the heat shield, I would have to check but with just the intake, there is way more room.
The exhaust is so quiet...... you can only just hear it when you accelerate...
@MomoTheBuilder2 жыл бұрын
I feel like in the cabin you can definitely hear it at a stand still, compared to stock you'll always hear it. It is by no means a racing exhaust or some fart can on an old civic, but more of a 'professional' sounding exhaust. Mazda's are meant to be quiet, and this exhaust spices it up.

Just from looking at the two, I imagine it would be more than 5 lbs. Maybe 10lbs? Im not sure if there will be any gains from this exhaust without a tune as I haven't seen any dyno data yet, but reduced weight would help. You Likely wouldn't "feel" the difference of 5-10lbs at this torque level and car size though. But if you're just trying to change the sound to something more satisfying, then the bonus of any gain is nice. a gain is a gain.
@Mike-pb7jm Жыл бұрын
@@JupiterxBlues weight reduction is collective. 5-10 lbs adds up here and there. CX5 is relatively light
@JupiterxBlues Жыл бұрын
@@Mike-pb7jm totally agree. But for reference, the cx-30 turbo is about 300lbs lighter(depending on trims) and is about 0.3 seconds faster 0-60(may differ depending on testing conditions). Im sure there are several other factors but going just off that, it would take about a 100lbs weight reduction to gain .1 second faster 0-60 from weight reduction alone. The average person may not notice that. You might be able to gain the .1 second with less weight loss though since you may be gaining power while your at it too.

1.) How much MORE HP can you get from the CorkSport intake than from a K&N drop-in air filter? I suspect very little. 2.) Cork Sport will admit their exhaust adds NO increased HP, just a "cooler sound". ->1st I don't want induction sound ->2nd I don't want unnecessary exhaust sound. I get all the HP I need with a Cork Sport down tube, K&N air filter and 1/4 tank of 100 octane gas mixed with 3/4 tank of 91 octane gas. (ONLY 91 octane "premium" is available west of the Mississippi for some strange reason.) I installed Cork Sport's Oil Catch Can to keep my intake valves cleaner and engine running efficiently. In addition I will get a BG intake and fuel system cleaning at 30,000 miles and every 30,000 after that. My MAZDA dealer has the BG system.
@MomoTheBuilder2 жыл бұрын
My guess is about 5 hp/torque on both, nothing major but definitely an improvement from stock. VS K&N youll probably get more than it, the K&N is more of a drop in, the corksport intake overhaul changes the whole intake design.

I love driving my wife's CX-5 GTR (2019, Turbo) but I started crapping on that car back when she owned the first version - 2016.5 - as it was boomy, loud and coarse sounding. The new generation was given the NVH treatment, and the improvements were very noticeable. However, it's still not as refined as I wish. And I can't stand Sport mode - and I've been a Sport drive kinda guy my whole life. Sport mode just hangs onto high RPMs mercilessly, and since her trim package does not have paddle shifters, it's really a pain in the but when it won't shift to a higher gear and lower the RPMs. Your car is so boomy and loud - I'd go out of my mind.
