Dang that thing sounds sick! I didn't know a CX500/650 could sound like an MT07. My armchair mechanic diagnosis would be a coil going bad, especially because its intermittent and gets worse with heat.

Did love that 'throaty' roar on it. 😀In the UK a comfortable 70 to 80 mph no sweat.. IT DID at high altitude with thinner air intake get a little gurgly.. but on one trip I made... it looked as though the engine was going to cut out.. or starved of fuel or dirty fuel in the carbs et but after a mile or two it cleared.. 👀You could also adjust the 'advance et' on this.. CX500 (UK) was also SHAFT DRIVE...

This bike runs sweet & crisp under acceleration. You part-throttle misfire could be an idle or off-idle mixture issue or, as you & others said, may be an ignition issue. Maybe time for some hot coils...? Sure sounds great other than this little glitch with part throttle running, but, that's why it's called a shakedown ride! Thanks for another great video!
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the input Mark but I don't think many watched the dyno video which touches on much of this and why my thinking is the way it is. This bike has maybe a couple factory parts on it as everything has been upgraded/changed. It has all the stuff
@bertbog50882 жыл бұрын
Hi I appreciate that you will have had lots of feedback and suggestions, hopefully that you have already sorted the issues, I know that all of my old Japanese bike would run so much better on NGK R plugs - the misfire while riding at some speeds and when your holding a steady speed could be an issue that I had years ago on a bike that turn out to be the pod filters, the air passing the outside two carbs was being robbed of air due to the airflow passed my leg and the filter, All i had to do was blank off the inside of the filter on the outside edge and it was sorted - Carbs do like to breath in smooth are and if the airflow gets disturbed it can cause hiccups in the way the air and mixture are introduced through the Carb and thus not getting the correct amounts. I hope that all goes well as it is a great bike :)
@firestorm7552 жыл бұрын
Fantastic. So close now. Have you tried raising needles to richen midrange a little. The sputtering could be lean mixture issue
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
We absolutely dialed it in on the dyno. This still seems like an ignition issue to me.

@@BrickHouseBuilds swap out plugs leads and caps incase of breakdown of insulation. I had a similar issue, turned out to be a plug cap but boy that took some tracking down
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
@@firestorm755 We are well beyond that already. Every component on the bike is new and its finding that right combo. There may be an actual issue with the ignition controller but I'm eliminating all other potential issues first. Check out the dyno video and my description on that one

Was fine at start. Suspect vacuum it tank is restricting fuel flow

Its not a vacuum leak or restricted fuel flow. It is ignition or a slight variance in the carbs

In the UK a firm favourite for couriers. The water cooled CX500 (did a complete service et and owned one for about 3 years) is a great bike to ride FOR ONE.. NOT a good idea to shove a pillion passenger on this as its centre of gravity is mega bad... 🙄I mean MAJOR not good.. with serious instability.. steering out of whack.. noooooooo 😗My girls CB 500 is a total beaut in comparison.. 😀Overall the CX 500 is a work horse.. fun to ride ALONE ! (Starter motor can be a problematic) but otherwise engine is a good solid beast ...
