Very valuable and excellent interview. Why don’t you bring people like this more often into the forefront. By doing so you will contribute towards changing our thinking, our culture, our outlook, and most importantly our SYSTEM. May I suggest few eminent names: Prof. Wasana Herath (for education) Ariyaseela Wickramanayaka [of Pelawatta milk] (for economy & entrepreneurship) Naganada Kodithuwakku (for constitution & system change) Lal Keerthi Gunawardana of Lucky milk (for start ups) Thisara Hewawasam of Aviyana Chalets a 7 Star Hotel Hiran Cooray of Jetwin Otara Gunawardana

There's a technology that challenges some of our encryption algorithms - quantum computers. But there are quantum-safe algorithms, and we can expect them to replace the existing algorithms in the future as we see more quantum computes or when these attacks become economically viable. As of now, the risk is low, as using quantum computers to break crypto is not economically viable.

Yes, anyone can do an undergraduate degree without having in-depth knowledge of that subject. When you start learning, try and extend your knowledge using other, online resources.

No, Sri Lanka does have an act for digital crime: COMPUTER CRIME ACT 2017. It's true that it does not have the privacy laws that we need.
Yes. However, we do not need to worry about that just yet, as the super computers are not easily available for such technology, but definitely for the future....

Bruno, it would have been nice if you mentioned AKD for exposing the Digital ID scandal. Guess that's too progressive for you bunch while being entangled deep in Right wing front. Thanks Bruno for the Convo regardless. Nirosha killed it all the way.
There is a data security policy in SL.. they started the ground work towards the last fays of Mahinda and continued through yahapalanaya.. it was later gazetted as well.. BUT there is no governing authority established in the country... From what i hear they are now trying to establish a body for monitoring and all that.. seeing as to how long ago they started on the policy it might be out dated by now anyway... Welcome to the Sri Lankan style 🤣🤣🤣

yes it's true but as a cyber security lecture ? can't get ... @@RocheHolton

Yes, we lectures also learn all the time. That’s the whole point. It doesn’t matter who or where the concept was introduced, what matters is as a lecturer or anyone else what I do about it (e.g. research into something to find out more, ask experts, fact checks, experiment etc). That’s exactly what I did here.

I disagree with some of this content. I met so many Cyber Security expoerts in my 25 year IT career. Unfortunatly most of them lack basic softwere skills and art of product development .. also understanding around the development process. Most of these people parachuted into these positions in big corporations. Then they end up creating security policies with so many human interactions and red tape with far less automation. Some of the approval process takes days and weeks . This ultimately reduces productivity and human resource waste. Ultimately kills interest in innovation. Secutity and Innovation should kept in fine balance also should automate as must as possible.I suggest if you want to be good security expert..first be a great developer with discipline,
@RocheHolton Жыл бұрын
Yes Absolutely! When you discuss organisational Cybersecurity, things organisations should and could think of, what they need to implement etc. is vast and multifaceted. For example, legal framework, what we could automate, how could we integrate AI and emerging tech, security by design principles, physical security systems security, people security etc. However, the main aim of this podcast was to touch upon so many areas including personal security, which should give some useful information, mainly to end-users. On the other hand, if we concentrate only on developers the problems we face today will continue to hinder, as we can't dictate what people buy or how secure can one application be (e.g. depending on the needs such as cost, security is not even a consideration for some cheap IoTs)

Unfortunately, the quality of some answers was not there. Easy questions such as "how to protect yourself online" could have been answered more clearly, rather than to tell people to use common sense. "Use common sense" could be the answer to mostly anything in life. She went on tangent occasionally without answering the question. So, if this was a test, I'd grade her C- to a C for her answers.
@RocheHolton Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the grading. I think the main point of podcasts like this is to introduce various topics and hopefully encourage people to research and build their knowledge even more.
@djstr0b3 Жыл бұрын
@@RocheHolton how would you grade yourself on the answers that you have given? You didn't know about cyber crime act of 2007, failed to mention quantum computing the first time Bruno asked, risks about deep fakes weren't good, the most of the other answers were just too generic to qualify as an answer. So how is that encouraging people to learn? Encouraging people would be to give them concrete answers they can work with and then giving them points to explore. On the safety on the internet there are hundreds of things you could have shown with examples, special for women/girls, rather than saying "use common sense". You hinted that there's no cyber security law in Sri Lanka (well technically you said you didn't know that such law existed). A 5 second Google search before the talk could have given you that answer. How is that encouraging? So how would you rate yourself?
