Every time I painfully followed a tutorial, hoping it would be the last time I’ll tell you this after watching this I got it down pat and I’ve even tested it!!!Thank you so much.!

Thanks a lot. UFEI and boot failures are just scary especially when you don't have absolutely everything backed up. You're such a great resource and your explanations are so good and straightforward. I just got a new 7945HX laptop and I've heard that you should not update the BIOS when asked; so I need to sort that but just love this processor (CB=34800!). Thanks for all you do! It is nice to have someone that has your back when you are in PC-Hell...

in my experience all windows systems are faulty and conflicts in software and problems with registry (by too much install deleting and then installing again the same software). theres always some f... issue and the fastest solution is re-installing Windows instead of searching for a needle in a haystack. I loose more time trying to find a solution unless the solution is obvious! so many hours wasted no thanks new install keep the old files no need to back up because theyr always on an another partition. 😊

@@jDurMC Windows 10 installation media has an option to reinstall Windows without losing your files or settings, but I honestly don't trust it to actually work as advertised. Once I have a full backup of the drive I almost lost which brought me to this video I might screw around and see if I do genuinely keep all my work programs, games, and personal files, but not until I have that backup.

Dude YATB!!!! You are incredible, my desktop would not boot up from my m.2 drive. I thought I was toast, but thanks to your video I am now back in business. This will sound made up, but I literally spent 2 days and countless hours trying to clone my M.2 drive to an SSD because I did not think my motherboard supported an m.2 boot. I am embarrassed to say I went out and bought a new motherboard, new memory, new cooler, etc. and rebuilt my PC, still did not work. I worked on this since 2am and could not get it to work, went to bed and woke up and started another Clone software. it was running from the am until 7:30 pm with 23% complete before I found your video. Thank you so much for this video. I stupidly deleted the bootloader using the AOMEI partition tool without understanding. After restart saw a black screen with "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key issue". Frantically was looking for an online solution (which also included clean installed that failed) for hours and came across your video. Just with faith, tried your guide and it fixed the corrupted boot. Didn't lose any personal data as it was a new machine I was tinker.

The reason LIST VOL showed the USB drive is because VOL is independant from the selected disk, and shows all volumes on the system. You did not do it wrong, however it was not necessary to select the disk when you are using the volumes as a reference. If you do select the disk, LIST PART is more accurate as it will show the partitions on the selected disk. Both will give you the same results, but just wanted to let you know that you do not need to select the disk if you are going to select the volume rather than the partition.

A month ago after a Windows update on my Dell XPS, the computer went into a constant cycle of restarting once the Dell logo appeared. I researched the issue, tried different solutions offered on forums to include repairing and resetting the computer, and nothing worked. The other day I spent an hour on the phone with Dell support in India who I could barely understand, and none of their solutions worked. They sent an email suggesting to reset the PC, which I'd already tried and which failed due to problems with boot files, and that didn't work. Although they said to reply with any issues and they said they were there to help, they ignored me after I responded. Frustrated, I watched your 20 minute video and voila, my PC works again - and it works without me having lost any of my data! Thanks a lot!

An interesting thing to know is that you can create a virtual drive (VHD) and boot from this in the bcdboot database. This is a great way to 'dual boot' if you want two copies of Windows (one being a sandbox) or to tinker on a system without affecting the main system.

Excellent video. This worked for me, thank god. Something to add, if you're a Lenovo IdeaPad user and this issue occurs after cloning your SSD to a bigger drive: If you try to follow these steps, you'll see that your C drive is MISSING in diskpart. Don't panic. Boot into UEFI BIOS, and disable "Intel Controller VMD"; save and exit, then boot from Windows bootable drive. NOW, if you follow CyberCPU's steps, you should see your C drive as Disk 0, and you can proceed. IMPORTANT: after you're done with these steps, you might get a different blue screen with the ;( face. Just restart into BIOS again and re-enable Intel Controller VMD, save and exit. Voila.

Yes, it's working, thank you. I was looking for a fix for 8 hours, nothing worked. I created Windows To Go with Rufus, and somehow that broke my bootloader. Nothing i've tried didn't seemed to work. Startup Repair could't repair it, both built in and from Windows Installation Media. Also Safe Mode option was missing, so i could't boot into Safe Mode. Your method totally worked. I have also used V: for the UEFI partition, but in my case C: partition was not assigned also, there was C: partition, but it was my secondary D: drive. So i have assigned my Windows partition as P:, followed your instructions and voila, Windows booted. To be honest, i didn't think it would work, i have tried bunch of stuff in cmd, none of them worked. You're the best, saved my ass. :D

I’ve watched like 25 videos on this topic, I have error 0xc000000e after migrating C drive to new larger SSD. I was over confident because it was booting up just fine until I completely cleared the original C drive I copied from. This video is amazing, I’m sure there has been a bunch of people finding themselves in this same situation. Thank you sir.

This video is just about how to fix a non booting BCD. However it does not show how to restore or recreate the recovery console (installed in its own partition, usually at end of disk just after the normal windows partition). In some cases Windows image updates will not run if: - (1) the ESP/EFI partition is full, i.e. too small to fit the bootloader, the "BCD" file, and various admin tools that have been placed there, or alternate bootloaders if you have installed "dualboot" for loading a Linux, which installs its own EFI tools there (like a Linux "Grub" boot loader), or other tools (like some offline backup system solutions, or offline antivirus, or offline defragmenters, or offlien hardware diagnostic tools specific to your machine). - (2) the updated recovery console cannot fit in the existing recovery partition: Windows will then try reducing the Windwos partition at end, to make space for a newer version, but will leave the existing windows recovery partition there (the Windows recovery console partition is a standard NTFS partition, it is just formatted with a flag that "hides" it during normal boot, and avoids mounting it with a drive letter, but you can perfectly mount it using diskpart and see its content: it may be corrupted in which case the recovery console will crash or will not load) Recreating the recovery partition is still possible; and you can also delete it using "diskpart" and delete superflous old recovery partitions that sometimes cumulate uselessly on disk. But it requires having a copy of it: you have to know how to manage partitions and recreate it with a sufficient size (usually about 655MB, its actual sizes changes a bit when it is updated when installing or updating windows, so in doubt you can give it a little more space such as 700MB). Just make sure you place this recovery partition immediately after the windows partition (which can be reduced using "diskpart" to leave a sufficient free space after it, just before creating a NTFS partition of 700MB, then assigning it the type GUID "de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac", and the GPT attributes "0X8000000000000001" But creatign that partition is not enough, you need tor restore its content, and for that you must first mount it and assign a temporary driver letter for it (e.g. you can use diskpart, select the 650MB..700MB NTFS volume you created for it, and then "ASSIGN LETTER=R" before exiting diskparty Then you need a directory named "\Recovery"; if the "R:" is the drive letter you chose to mount, the normal file attributes for the Recovery partition is "ATTRIB /D R:\Recovery +s +h +i",you can see its effective attributes with "R:" to select the drive, CD "\" to go the root folder, then "ATTRIB /D" to list all files and directories in that root folder, you should see this line SH I R:\Recovery in addition to another line for the hidden "System Volume Information" directory, whose content does not matter, but that Windows creates to store some diagnostic logs (e.g for CHKDSK) or some additional copies of critical data (e.g. Bitlocker account access tokens and signatures, Azure account keys, encryption keys...) The content needed of this Recovery folder is just another hidden directory named "WindowsRE", which has the same "+S +H +I" file attributes. Inside it there are just 3 files: "boot.sdi", "ReAgent.xml" and "winre.wim" (they also have the same "+S +H +I" file attributes, to hide by default in Windows Explorer), with sizes about 3MB and 555MB respectively. The "ReAgent.xml" file is very small, but cannot be copied from one PC to another, as it is specific to the partition layout on our disk: it is created using a command line tool name "Reagentc", which checks its validity with the BCD entries that you can control it and the EFI BIOS will use to boot in that recovery console, after checking that it is not corrupted and matches the digital signatures stored in the BCD for the "boot.sdi" file, which then load the "reagent.xml" to check it, and locate the "winre.wim" and check also its security signature: "winre.wim" contains a windows image with the signed Windows PE kernel, a few signed critical drivers, the recovery environment with some .EXE, .DLL for a few command tools you can use in the console and the default Wnidwos diagnostic tools and restore tools). So you need a safe copy of "boot.sdi" and "winre.wim" (they are unfortunately not visible in the Windows ISO image: either you can use a copy from another Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation with the same x86, AMD64 or ARM64 architecture;, or you need to extract them from the windows image in the mounted ISO, by using DISM tool to mount the windows image in a temporary folder; there are some tools that allow to inspect what is in .wim or .esd windows images that are found in Windows ISO files). Once you have restore the 2 files in "R:Recovery\WindowsRE", you must use BCDEDIT to cleanup old nonworking BCD entries, and REAGENTC to restore the BCD entry allowing to boot the WinRE console. Note that when booting from a bootable Windows setup DVD or flash drive, there's no tools proposed to do all this easily: the setup program just proposes you to reinstall windows, there's still no option to just reinstall the recovery partition and restore its working entry in the BCD; the only tool proposed does not even help restoring a working BCD if windows is not booting; that is stupid from Microsoft! But some non-Microsoft emergency disks exist that can do that for you (including from various antivitus/antirootkit third party solutions, or from third backup tools) without having to understand the tricky commands to correctly create and identify partitions in "DISKPART", "BCDEDIT" and "REAGENTC", plus other security attributes you need to check and make all this in the correct order... If all is done correctly, there's a final step to check that the recovery console is now correctly setup: "REAGENTC /INFO" will show if is correctly installed and enabled. As long as this command does not show enabled, there's a problem: there are missing or incorrect files in the recovery console setup, or incorrect data in the BCD entry shown with "BCDEDIT /enum all", where you need to look at an entry with a long GUID matching what REAGENTC shows (but not the REAGENTC shows the GUID without surrounding them in "{braces}", whereas BCDEDIT needs this braces! How Microsoft can be so incoherent in the syntax of its command line tools!)

Note however that even if you don't have a reconvert partition, nothing forbids you from using an external recovery, such as a bootable windows installer on a flash USB drive, which includes the recovery tool.

Would be way cool for a step by step video on dual booting, and how to witch operating systems from WITHIN each OS. So you choose the OS to be launched at the next boot from WITHIN whatever the current OS is (win/linux). Why? So you can do it remotely of course, without having to connect to the console directly or via remote KVM. And thanks for this one.

This really helped me. This problem occurred after I installed ubuntu on a second hard drive, then windows stopped booting from first hard drive. In my case bcdedit command was not working. Nonetheless I followed all the steps. I had the Ubuntu and Boot in the EFI directory. Instead of wiping the UEFI partition, I used the bcdboot command as mentioned in video. This recreated the Microsoft in the EFI directory. I am now able to dual boot into windows and ubuntu. I just have to reorder the boot sequence of the drive at startup. Thank you.

No help for me here. I installed the latest windows update on my ASUS GL512 last week. I rebooted after the update was complete. Getting ready for a trip of a few months very soon. Gotta get everything working & updated you know. Anyways the computer rebooted, rebooted etc. Strornvme Failed. I tried everything. Going thru all the steps and then some. End result I do a dir on the drive, No Files Listed, nadda, zip. Just nothing there. I take out the SSD and put it into one of those thingee's where you can plug it into another computer, it comes up as F: drive, I see all the files are there. Don't dare to try anything to this drive at this point with this computer because it is beyond my know-how as to what to manipulate on the drive to fix it. Anyhow, stuck it back in the laptop. But when I do the diskpart, list disk, only Disk 1 which is 19gb-0-free & nothing for Dyn & GPT. However when entering sel disk 0, there it is 1825gb status , healthy. i got up to the part where your going to delete the BCD. I switch to drive C & do a DIR, Volume in drive C is OS, and the serial number. Directory of C:\ File Not Found.

Can you make a video on how to fix crashes and freezes due to an error referenced as "Kernel-Power 41" without a clean install?
@xDovahOG
@xDovahOG Жыл бұрын
Speaking from personal experience, I've run into Kernel-Power 41 issues in the past. The main issue is that there isn't just one solid reason this can happen. One PC that I worked on had a single faulty RAM chip, another one had a faulty GPU, both of which with the same code. Kernel-Power 41 is a very ambiguous error code, I'd look into the hardware to see what may be causing it, with programs like MemTest86 or OCCT just to name two, both of which have helped me narrow things down in the past.
@CyberCPU
@CyberCPU Жыл бұрын
That's going to be typically a hardware issue. It essentially just means that the computer shut down unexpectedly. I would start with how your computer is getting power. Make sure you're not using an ancient power strip or a UPS with a bad battery. If you're using a UPS you can test it by unplugging it from the wall and if it keeps the system running it should be fine. However if the system immediately shuts down when you unplug it then you probably need a new UPS or to replace the battery in your old one. Most of the time though this problem is going to come from a bad power supply.
@MeowChristodoulos
@MeowChristodoulos Жыл бұрын
@@CyberCPU I got my laptop about 2 years ago (it's a Lenovo ideapad3) so it's probably not using any ancient stuff. Also instead of shutting down or anything, it just freezes and sometimes even restarts on its own. And when it doesn't, I'm still able to close it by the power button. This means that some drivers ARE able to run even after this. And this mostly happens when I open it after I put it to sleep mode or hibernation. EDIT: There's actually some problems with the RAM recently (can use only 3GB out of 8), although it appeared way later the Kernel-Power issue occured. Could it be related?
