It looks like Windows 11 is losing market share. What's funny is that its losing to Windows 10. How is Microsoft going to end support for Windows 10 next year when its still there most popular operating system? What will it take for people to switch to Windows 11? This looks like trouble for Microsoft.

at work we got our office lady new computer and windows 11 was unusable for 60 years old person so we just copied the c partition from old computer to the new one along with windows 10 and disabled tpm in bios. it activated, retain all the programs and certyficates...and the only thing that had to be reactivated was office and we have happy office lady. but it should not be this hard to get in or out of the old windows ever since windows 8 we lost ability to roll back intarface to older version , you could use windows 95 in program mannager shell, xp up to 7 with clasic win 9x style windows and task bar last 10 years microsoft was fightig the consumers gving and taking stuff in product we paid for

To be sincere, unless you have some very specific PAID software that uses older versions of Net Framework to be activated (Making it impossible to activate them on Linux), Linux nowadays (Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, etc), are incredibly easy to use. With the exception of Power Users of the system, that still keep making tutorials on how to use everything on a command prompt using sudo commands, the entire system works like Windows, but even better because it's possible to do anything you want with it, you can install themes that changes the entire system, you can have a system that looks like Windows 7 or any other windows and do it your way, and it's fast, very well made and receives updates constantly. And thanks to Steam efforts to make Steam Deck a thing, 95% of the Steam Library runs on Linux by using their own emulator on the system, so you have no need to do anything but update your drivers if needed. The sole reason I'm on Windows is LITERALLY the lack of ways of activating Scrivener there right now, and I'll keep trying on my laptop until I can do it. Once I do, I'll leave windows 11 on my PC too.

I have always been hesitant and late when it comes to upgrading my windows OS. In 2007... I was still using Windows 95, and then upgraded to Windows XP around 2009, then Windows 7 very late, and with my most recent OS, Windows 10 very late. I will not upgrade to Windows 11 just because what Microsoft is doing with their OS designs. I will switch to Linux ( Ubuntu and Mint ), and FreeBSD ( via USB HDD plug in that the BIOS switches to in the boot up), but still keep using Windows off-line with backups to reinstall the system, and my data. The other problem with upgrading or even changing to a new OS, is learning the new OS and investing ( and relearning ) in the software all over again.

End of support from windows doesn't mean jack sh. just keep using w10 as long as it's supported by the software you use because by the time people find exploits that could actually put your system in danger no new software is going to support win10 anyways and you'll be forced to change OS. People love to fearmonger but in reality the security is 100x better than in the windows XP days and just because you don't get security updates doesn't mean you will suddenly get hacked. For more advanced settings, you need to use PowerShell, and the commands there are tedious to memorize all of them and type them out as they can be long and very specific. The whole purpose of Microsoft Windows is to have a UI. It was designed specifically for the UI as an improvement over command line DOS and MS-DOS. The fact of the matter is that what was once a great operating system with the options and control panels you needed under Windows 7 has been purposefully dumbed down with those same options concealed specifically to make it more difficult to do what otherwise in the past has been a very simple task.

I'm the same. I don't plan on upgrading to Win 11 even if I could, not until I have to, mostly because my PC will need a major upgrade (MB & CPU) before I can even install Win 11 and I know that Win 10 will run all the games I play now, while Win 11 is an unknown on that front for me.

Windows 10 doesn't have any issues. Microsoft can literally keep it updated with all new architectures and network protocols if they wanted. They want everyone to transition because of all the new telemetry and ads they're showing in win11. I remember when I was happy hearing win 10 was meant to be the last operating system, but unfortunately the new ceo had plans changed. Now we have 11.... A huge downgrade

How do you know. windows 11 you can now install with a minimum requirement of PTM 1.2 SO it's gone down from 2.0. That will help some people has PTM 1.2 is available on most CPUs from 2015 & upwards. There are no requirements for the Motherboard anymore just the CPU, but you are still stuffed if your CPU is prier 2015 thought. But if your PC is 9 years old you really should be ready to upgrade it. PTM 1.2 will require a fresh install So a bit more of a hassle with backing up files.

This does not shock me at all. Honestly, though I heard the same thing about Windows 10 when it first came out. But it was updated and tweaked to be a pretty solid mature OS. I was hoping they would go that route with Windows 11 but so far not so much. I'm hoping the next version of windows they will fix all the stupid things they did in windows 11. Also, for the love that is good and holy, get rid of having to have a Microsoft account to access your operating system! Stupidest thing ever implemented. Lets face it though. Microsoft has transitioned into a data collection company. So we better get used to that. Don't even get me started about copilot. We actually turned it off in my organization. It's a security risk.

I occasionally get annoyed with how hard it is to figure out how to do something on Linux (actually Doing the thing is rarely difficult, figuring out how can be a nightmare)... and then I run into something that was complicated or annoying on windows that is just straight up 'plug and play' or equivalent on Linux, or that i never knew was even Possible when using windows and just stumble across in passing while using Linux that makes things much easier in one way or another, and it well and truely makes up for it. Libra Office vs Microsoft Office (and keep in mind, I switched away from the latter for financial reasons long before the ribbon or subscriptions became a thing) has been similar: various menu Items are in weird or annoying places, but there are so many functions that are so easy to use and make everything so much better (be it easier or less prone to causeing problems when interacting with other things or just having nicer results) are just a couple of clicks rather than a whole convoluted process that you read the multipage documentation for and still don't understand, nevermind manage to use.

Indeed. Linux definitely has downsides of it's own, but every new version of Windows makes it's upsides more significant. Windows 7 was probably the last version of Windows where I would have actually Recommended choosing Windows over Linux by default... partially because Linux has got better, mostly because Windows has got worse. 8.1 (we'll ignore the stupidity that was release version 8) the choice was very situational (type of user, what they actually wanted to do with the machine, etc.). 10? I tried it... the only benefit I got out of it was appriciating that 8.1 wasn't worse. That experience got me properly into using Linux for day to day (non-gaming) stuff. These days even my gaming is done on Linux (or a nintendo Switch, PS2, or PS3, but mostly linux.)

nah, mint still has some of the same bs issues that linux in general tends to have. what should be a seamless experience that just works, often doesn't. this coming from a guy who ran centos servers for years, has a pfsense box, and still loves linux for anything server related. the end user desktop experience is just crappy unless all you're doing is productivity work and coding. the minute you want to do enthusiast stuff like gaming, making game mods, etc there's always some stupid issue that pops up. For example, I recently installed linux mint, went great. I used the automatic update tool, and it failed six downloads. Those failed packages ended up breaking the entire operating system to the point that even the firefox browser built in wouldn't launch anymore. No matter what, even changing repositories, those packages could not be downloaded and the OS was broken. I figure okay sure why not just go into Windows since I set it up with grub for dual boot. Nope, because for some reason, grub won't detect my keyboard which googling that is apparently a known issue. Switch out to multiple keyboards and same thing, impossible to select operating systems and it defaults to the broken mint OS. End up having to use recovery media for windows, go into the troubleshooting command prompt, and rebuild the MBR, use EaseUS to wipe the linux partition and merge it back in. This is stuff that the end user should never have to encounter. Microsoft is indeed crappy, but they got rid of these sort of out of the box issues back with windows 98.
