✔unboxing Aldi wildlife camera -WK4 HD Maginon

i was lucky enough to grab a wildlife (hunting) camera from Aldi today. Marketed as Maginon Vision WK4 HD Wildlife Camera in Australia, this unit is identical to brand name cameras found in the US.
At AU$129.99, this camera is packed full of features and includes batteries and a microSD memory card (4Gb).
A quick demo proved it to be a decent product for a low price. The picture captures are clearer than the videos under nightime conditions.
Overall rating 7/10 due to slight lag in recording and switching modes, also the video could be a bit better. This can easily be improved with a high speed memory card under ideal lighting conditions.
Daytime function works very well.

Decent little cams if you know where to buy them... The branding doesn't matter though, they're all made in china by the same 4 mfg's and can be bought unbranded for around 30 bucks each, less if you buy multiple quantity (10 or more at a time). All these big name companies just buy bulk, brand with their own company name, sometimes add a custom design/boxing/camo/bark style rough case surface, then sell them at ridiculous inflated 500% marked up prices...

For some reason when the sensor detects movement it takes 5 seconds for the camera to start recording. On the box it says that the activationtime should be 0,4 seconds but it is nowhere close to that. Do you know if you can change the activationtime and how? Thanks in advance.

Nice unit for sure..was this a Aldi special Saturday sale only? I wouldn't mind one of these myself.Would work great as an extra cam on a tripod when I'm out flying drones with my mate Simmo, plus countless other uses.. Great explanation video of all of the features..well done bud thumbs up from me 👍

sale started saturday. they were walking out the door at 8.30am. better be quick, its a pretty good buy. it doubles as a security camera or time lapse cam. only hassle is the 8 AA batteries. not rechargable (unless you plug in a 12v power source like a small 12v battery)

Hi, I have such a webcam wk1 has so far worked flawlessly but for several days it turns on itself every few seconds and records although there is no movement whether you need or not so it can drain your batteries after 2 days. Strangely, it turns on only during the night at no. Is something broken or is it a matter of settings and if so it is me

unfortunately, password is rock solid. only way is to send it back to service department with your receipt for a reset. maybe try all your lucky 4 digit codes first 🤞🏼

These will only use 1080p at 15fps , which is quite terrible. I bought one new on CL for $20.

yeah, the photo rendering and video frame rate isnt fantastic- but for the price, i got some great results tho. i have some sweet deer videos and pictures. thanks for watching and sharing your experience

Think that 4 batteries =6 volts. Works on 4 batteries. Another 4 batteries = 6 volts but in parallel to the other 4 batteries, not in series. So voltage is 6 v. Not 12 v

not so. i just checked with the multimeter.. 8 batts inline (series) measure 11v in circuit (due to load impedence). where did you get the 6v value from? the external power is 12v also. *edit* i went to school with a guy with the same name as you.

Cyber MacGyver Manual states 4 batteries for 3 months standby and if you use 8 batteries you get 6 months standby. Manual also states that the external source has to be 6v DC

you have a different unit. the one i reviewed definitely takes 8 batts only with a 12volt 1amp external power input. the battery circuit measures 11volts in standby and stops working when a single cell is removed. *the 6volt feature is more convenient in my opinion / but the 12v can run off any car battery or solar panel. thanks for sharing that info

@@CyberMacGyver The older WD 3 would run on 4 or 8 batteries but looks like the new WD 4 runs on 8 batteries only. Are you happy with the camera because my local store have them in from tomorrow and I like the look of them. The older WD 3 was a bit tempremental and wouldn't record sometimes. If I set it to record a video and 3 pics, it would sometimes record a video and just 1 or no pics. I understand they are cheap but expect them to work as advertised.

(not directly into mains voltage 110-240v... but) there is a tiny dc connector on the bottom. you can plug in a bigger battery or a power adaptor (mains powered transformer) 12v 1Amp

Not at night because they illuminate the area in front for the IR camera. I have the older model WD 3 and was a bit glitchy and sometimes didn't take a picture. If someone can tell me the newer WD 4 is ok then I will buy one as my local store have them in from tomorrow for only £59

@@albefuctivino1488 Yes it would, even though the IR LED's aren't that bright, they can be seen as a dim red glow. There are no glow black led's and are on the more expensive camera's.
