Emerald 6 and especially 7 were the toughest. But indeed I truly felt like I conquered once I beat that smug pirate. And the pay off with the finale was well worth it.

I swear to God, Dimps makes everything possible make every special stages on Sonic games they work for to be an pain in the ass. I'm still have traumas for my Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure and Lost World 3DS emerald hunt.

I never played the advance games or lost world. However I agree with you on Rush. Rush Adventure on the other hand? It just takes a little trial and error, nothing too hard. Then again I grew up playing this game and am currently replaying it so it could just be the nastlagia and muscle memory helping me out there.

Because it's Sonic. He likes the thrill of the competition (though he does take things seriously when necessary). Just like with the Extreme gear, Sonic is besting Johnny at his own game. And he knows he will. Plus, he clearly likes the water bike.

Gonna be honest, I do enjoy the emerald grind in this game. I've never been a fan of special stages so games like Sonic Heroes, the classic games, and Sonic Mania I kinda just go through the game casually. I honestly prefer the idea of this game's approach. Having the Chaos Emeralds tied to a form of Rival Race is kinda genius for a concept in a Sonic game. Hell, I think they should take this approach in the next mainline game. Maybe bring Metal Sonic back and have him play a Johnny-like role where you race him through levels(Colors Ultimate style) for the Chaos Emeralds). The Sol Emeralds here are a different story. I think all the Sol Emeralds should've been boss rematches like half of them already are, it would've made more sense if they were obtained in a consistently similar way or just obtained through story like the Emeralds are in Unleashed and Generations. But that's my only complaint in terms of Emerald hunting. This game does give you a fair challenge in obtaining all 14 Emeralds as opposed to annoying half-pipe special stages you have to go out of your way to get a single try at. Looking at you Sonic Rush and Sonic Heroes...
